The birth of PISTOL Extreme Field Target

Given the announcement at the top of this section of the first Extreme Field Target Grand Prix series, guess I'd better get off my duff to also announce the birth of Extreme PISTOL Field Target! The June 4-5 TEXtreme Field Target competition weekend will be not only the third Extreme Field Target Grand Prix (rifle) event, but the official founding of Extreme PISTOL Field Target competition (by the same nut that founded AAFTA Pistol Field Target).

And although there is no EFT Pistol Grand Prix series (yet), thanks to the generosity of Extreme Field Target founder Robert Buchanan the TEXtreme Field Target pistol event will award Airguns Of Arizona gift certificates to the top three pistol shooters as follows- $250 Airguns Of Arizona gift certificate to the Pistol Champion, $150 AoA gift certificate to Second Place, and $100 AoA gift certificate to Third Place.

Full size (and weight) extreme field targets will be engaged with air pistols of up to 20 foot pounds of muzzle energy, at distances of 10 to 55 yards. Kill-zone sizes will range from 1/2" to 4", including round and rounded-triangular shapes. Although high(er)-magnification scopes are allowed, scopes must be set no higher than 12X during the pistol competition. Other than aforementioned distances, muzzle energy and scope magnification limits, we will operate under AAFTA Hunter Class pistol rules.

Suffice to say it's QUITE a thrill to knock over a three-foot-tall extreme field target at 55 yards with an air pistol... in real wind conditions! My extensive target-function testing indicates all our extreme field targets will fall reliably to clean paddle hits of at least 8 foot pounds of .22 caliber pellet. That being the case, and the farthest targets being the largest and heaviest, I recommend a pistol producing at least 15 foot pounds of muzzle energy. Aforementioned target-function testing was conducted with my 16 foot pound .22 Ataman AP16 (at 60 yards).

A triangular kill-zone of 3-4" presents a target realistically smaller than it looks; forcing a decision whether to aim at a point more forgiving of windage error, elevation error, or compromise.

My EPFT rig-

Ataman AP16 with vintage Bushnell Trophy 4-12X rifle scope, Huma Mini mod, and Pachmayr coco-bolo finger-groove grips. She averages sub-1" five-shot groups at 50 yards with 18.1 grain JSBs at 628 FPS/15.9 FP.

More common air pistols with EPFT potentials would include the Benjamin P-Rod, the awesome vintage Falcon PCPs, the Chinese PP700 and PP750, and any number of customized Crosmans.

It occurs to me that probably the best out-of-the-box choice for EPFT in a production air pistol today is the Brocock Atomic XR-

But regardless of your chosen poison, what better excuse to feed an airgun addiction?

Gonna use AAFTA Hunter Pistol rules with the following exceptions Cam- A 20 FP muzzle energy limit rather than 12 FP, high-magnification scopes allowed but set no higher than 12X in competition, target distances to 55 yards rather than 35, and kill-zones as large as 4" that don't have to be round. BTW, Derrick will be using the pistol he bought from you, with the .22 barrel installed.

I realized after the fact that I'd neglected to mention the HW44, PWD; but it's probably also plenty capable.

Using this guy in the TEXtreme Pistol FT match. I’m looking forward to it.

Put the PP700 back to FT duty with a few enhancements :p
Re-barreled with a Legal full 15" LW .20 cal with a tensioned shroud. Full length Rail/Grip added being attached at trigger guard having a rigid spacer up front between tank & rail. Back on went the excellent HAWKE Panorama 3-12 AO ( ranges really well for an AO scope ) Small side/side wind flag on turret cap & bubble level finish it off.

On 95 bar ( HuMa regulated ) we can make @ 45 shots at >12 fpe. At 130 bar we can make >20 fpe for @ 18-20 shots.
So a Legal PFT for AAFTA or Extreme PFT pending how adjusted

Updated to longer air tube .. got 5" more doubling + the volume.

seeing that i will never compete i have a question
a Umarex Notos can be made into a pistol under 12 inch barrel and has power and accuracy to spare could it be use in the Pistol configuration
take a look at the thread I'm attaching pictures of it.. below the post by me is a great post on the pp750 which is very similar to the notos..
I plan on doing that with my notos and also making it so I can screw on the factory moderator.. just going to take time and machine work..

Man... what kind of can of worms did I open by founding Pistol Field Target? Then, Extreme Pistol Field Target? THIS kind of can of worms, apparently. Being disposed to the esoteric of virtually anything I'm into, it doesn't get much more esoteric than this. I love it!

Also love the kind of 'unique' individuals attracted to it; especially when they can join the TEXtreme fun. So if you're into this thread, you have an open invitation to join us; suffice to say we have a very 'loose' (as in screws) screening process.;)😂

Matter of fact, there's no better opportunity to dive into Extreme Pistol Field Target than the coming 2023 TEXtreme Rifle and Pistol State Championships, December 1-3. Trust me, you'll be rubbing shoulders (figuratively) with some of the loosest screws in airgunning...🤪😵‍💫🥴🤓o_O

And having a literal and figurative BLAST doing so! By the way, the prize-list is over $3000 in cash, Airguns Of Arizona gift certificates, Sightron Optics, and performance awards.💵💵💵 Not to mention BRAGGIN' RIGHTS! The take for the Extreme Pistol FT match alone is almost $1000.

Sorry, there will be no participation awards. On second thought; NOT SORRY!:ROFLMAO:

However, there will be schwag-bags of goodies for every registered 'participant'.

See the attachment for all details.

Happy shooting, Pistoleros!

What's next; MAGNUM Pistol Field Target? Ummmm...

Stay tuned, Folks!
