The FX Maverick and the "Pee-Wee" .177

I've read and seen more than a few reviews on the Maverick and the Impact in .22 through .30 caliber but I've not seen too many reviews on the "Pee-Wee" .177. I'm just curious because the .22s and up seems to be the pellet of choice when a person decides to purchase the Maverick or the Impact. I purchased the Brocock Concept Lite in .177 last year and I must say that it's a laser for paper punching and or taking out small game, so what's up with the "Pee-Wee" .177 and the Maverick

My 600 mm maverick in .177 was challenging to get going, but it would shoot the MRD pellets well but under 600 FPS, above and i only got the Beasts to fly well.

I have now changed to a 700 mm barrel, and i think i was more lucky with that one, at least shooting the gun now i feel a whole lot better when i am done, but i am mainly shooting slugs in the maverick now.

This is MRD pellets shot in "slow motion" with the 600 mm barrel. ( 50 M distance )

Shooting the MRD pellets at faster speeds ( 800 - 900 FPS ) then they grouped well too,,,, just in 3 closely places cerebrate groups, shooting a whole 21 shot MAG i was unable to make a ragged hole then, at best i could do was a long ragged tear.

Dident go thru all pellets with the 600 mm barrel, but it is the reason i now have a pellet collection of 15 different pellets.

Alternative my Vulcan 3, and i have a hard time finding a pellet it dislike, though here too there are apparent favorites, just many more than i ever found shooting the Maverick in 600 mm outfit.

Thank you plingpling, I'm just curious because everyone on this side of the planet seems to shoot the larger pellets and no one seems to care for the .177, whether it's the Maverick Compact with the 300 cc bottle or either one of the larger bottles. It does seem as though your Maverick shoots the heavier pellets well with the longer barrel, thanks again for your response.

Simplyhooked, I have been moving barrels around amongst my collection and the brand new .17 FX 700mm landed in my Maverick. I am very excited to take it out this weekend to my permission and see what it can do out to 100+. I pulled a tuned .22 700mm out and left the tune the same. I will see what it likes while putting some JSB KO 10's and 13's along with NSA 15's. Did a chrony back on the 28th with a "mild" power setting and have these #'s for the 15gr. I'll post results next week.

My dream-tac compact and GRS crown are both 177 and shoot sub12 FPE (100% pee-wee) very accurately with 10.3 hades or heavy. Maybe try a different tune?

@2L8: have your tried 12.5 NSA and 13.5 KO? The 13.5 KO has been really really good out of FX barrels.

@qball, thanks for sharing your thoughts as well because I've got some .177 Hades coming on tomorrow that I'm going to try out.

I do think shooting against my M8 using his .22 Cutlass, one reason for me not being as accurate is the wind, i refuse to believe that a newer FX is "that much" worse than a 10 year old FX.

But shooting BR at 50 M i sure got my ass handed to me, and by a person i usually outshoot with my .22 Cyclone, so i think the 1 mm smaller pellets are magnitudes more susceptible to wind,,,,, which we have plenty off in Denmark.

The only downside i have shooting .177 at 100 M is you really need splatter targets as regular paper and it is damn hard to see the holes.

And shooting 100 M ( slugs ) i do a lot better than my M8 as he is forced to shoot pellets as the old ST barrels to my knowledge are no good with slugs.

My Vulcan 3 with its CZ barrel just 400 mm long, it do very well with the slugs too, and even the 10.43 grain KO ones which i never got to fly well in the Maverick, even shooting 100 M is no problem and 9 out of 10 shots are within the size of a pellet tin in .177, so about 2 - 3 inches, i even tried to shoot MRD pellets at about 90 M one day, and it wasent half bad either, i am going to try that again when i get some splatter targets.
