The horror! A bullpup without a side cocking lever!!

This is not an original idea, it’s most definitely not my idea, but I figured it was worth illustrating. The Taipan Veteran checks off a Lot of boxes for anyone looking for a hunting/ pesting PCP. It’s built like a tank, it’s short, extremely accurate, reliable, repeatable, gets plenty of shots off a fill, has anti-double cocking feature, & excellent accuracy across it’s power range (easily adjustable via the hammer spring) Amongst other features I may have missed. BUT it doesn’t have a side cocking lever…..The Horror! 😱

For me and many others a rear cocker is a non starter. Hammer and spring? How about a simple TP adjustment knob? Also things like is the regulator externally adjustable? All these things add up. Thank goodness we can shoot what we like. Enjoyed the video, rear cocking? Definitely not a feature.

Always enjoyed your video's including this one. I think the tactical version looks better, but I like your Deadpool edition. I remember another member mentioning your rear cocking method in a BR position if memory serves and I thought he said he could cycle the cocking lever with his left hand and never take his eye off his target while shooting, but that didn't seem like an option shooting offhand from your video.

Don't care for the rear cocking lever. BUT...I do own two Daystate, Pulsars and a Taipan, Veteran Compact, all in .22 .
I like the Pulsars (but for the cocking lever !), and I only bought the Taipan to see what all of the Fanboy fuss is about. It's, a ok gun, nuthin special. I tried the cocking lever on both sides of the gun. I left it on the left side.

Also, being right handed, the only place for the lever is...on the left side of the gun.

Both of my Pulsars shroud got caught in the fan and chopped off.

Being able to keep my eye on the quarry while setting up for a follow up shot is a must for me, but that wasn’t my issue with my veteran. I just couldn’t shoot it accurately. It was hard for me to hold steady. I free hand or lean against trees for most of my shots, and the veteran just didn’t do that well for me. The rear cocking was just icing on the cake. If edgun can do it with their r5m platform and STILL make an Uber rugged gun, why can’t taipan engineer their vet to do the same. It’s been unchanged since it’s debut as the mutant. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade!

Actually rear cocking is not a problem at all in my opinion, when you have all the plus the Taipan has,...who cares about the rear cocking ?

Never understud the big movement against it.
Frankly, I don’t really care how people spend their money & what they prefer, etc. Primary reason for bringing it up is because as of late, you have these opinions being thrown around from people that simply will not see that there’s more than one way to do something, and that there’s is value in things that they don’t like for other folk, regardless of how they feel about it.

But, indeed, at least for me, it’s not a problem whatsoever. If I really needed to keep my eyes glued to a target, I would get a Semi-Auto.

No “movement against” rear cocking… When shopping for a PCP I doubt anyone states its has to be rear cocker. Its simply not a feature, just something the guys who love the platform adapt to. The rest of us? No thanks.

I agree.
I have an older Cz with rear cocking, short thow , very little linkage . very few problems.
I seem to adjust linkages on my other pcps when their thow handle is in the middle of rifle.
Just too many factors to go wrong. They shoot well when they work, but not as reliable.

I really like my Veteran, but I must admit that I have the same issue when shooting from a tree support. I find it challenging to maintain a steady hold, the short length and blocky forend make it difficult. That said, it's still one of my favorite rifles to shoot, accurate, reliable, great trigger. As for the rear cocking, it's absolutely not an issue for me, but that's always going to be a personal preference.

The lefty thing is what drives me, I was born right handed but the results of a on duty assault years ago led to my shoot eye being removed,

I have 3 inside guns, a p-rod, a Avenger rifle and a much altered Diana Skyhawk. The Skyhawk was the least of my favorites, until I put a side lever kit on it, now the other two don’t get shot much.

In this day and age of Airguns innovation, there is not much love in my collection for side levers that can’t be reversed, older designs using bolt actions and short magazines.

Roachcreek

Nice to the point video! With sitting groups like this EVERY TIME I SHOOT IT I would muzzle load the thing...group is with CP domes (31y)

, does even better with 18 JSBs...honestly it's that good for me.
I grow weary defending the design. I guess there not for everybody, you can have my share of FX Impacts for example.

When I was looking around for a new PCP, the rear cocking lever did not seem a huge deal, but it was not a feature that I really wanted either, so I moved on to other choices.

I will also say though that I was kind of uncertain about the side lever configuration on the RTI that I ended up getting.
I just was unsure about it being on the left, but it took me all off a few seconds to realize the advantage of it.
My point? Try not to be too critical of a feature until you have actually tried it.

To each, his own I guess. I was gifted an FX Bobcat, .22 a while back. Lever is in between side cocking & rear cocking (no really, in between the two! ). That's been the hardest thing to adjust to, though adjust I have. At least I don't have to remove my eye from scope. Don't think I could get used to the awkwardness of that positioning but that's just me.
