The horror! A bullpup without a side cocking lever!!

Great minds think alike! Lol
Haven’t graduated to the upper tier yet, but will soon. I cock my Kral Puncher Breaker the same way. The weight is so far to the rear it’s easier to let go with your support hand anyway. Seems much more natural to me. Imo for a right handed shooter the best place for the cocking lever is forward on the left side right above the support hand.

The lefty thing is what drives me, I was born right handed but the results of a on duty assault years ago led to my shoot eye being removed,

I have 3 inside guns, a p-rod, a Avenger rifle and a much altered Diana Skyhawk. The Skyhawk was the least of my favorites, until I put a side lever kit on it, now the other two don’t get shot much.

In this day and age of Airguns innovation, there is not much love in my collection for side levers that can’t be reversed, older designs using bolt actions and short magazines.

Roachcreek
I’m pretty sure the Taipans can be switched to Lefty, seem to recall it being done before by someone else. Options are always good 👍🏼

The trick with that design such that it is would be to have a left hand side cocking for a righty.....which means the cocking handle is on the opposite side of the cocking mechanism so it doesn't smack you in the face. Probably not really feasible and better to be redesigned altogether. I imagine the linkages would be prone to breakage.

The vets are Great little guns.
Tried and true, all be it outdated.
I have owned a few over the years and really enjoyed them.

With that said i am down to just 2 bullpups, i have owned Many of them but find myself going back to the traditional stock style, it's a comfort and a nostalgic thing for me...

The last 2 pups in the collection are 2 of my Favorite guns and to be honest i can Not believe these don't get more recognition. With just a small bit of tuning they are on par/better than some of my most accurate long guns, and guess what they do Not require Any cocking!
They shoot pellets as well as they shoot slugs too....

How often do you....... REALLY ......need that fast follow up shot ?
In hunting probably very very seldom, most people are target shooters and definitely don't NEED it, so basically is that mid cockers are just cooler toys ;)

Do you really need that super fast follow up shot ?....... just get a Semi, problem solved.

I still have a rear cocking Pup and I really don't understand what the big fuss against them is

There is no “fuss” about the rear cockers, you either like them and adapt, or you don’t like them, and buy something different. And the “need” doesn’t apply. In some pesting situations there are “multiple” shot opportunities. So its not necessarily about follow up shots. Just poor placement of a lever, and an unwillingness to evolve the design.

If anyone here happens to have a taipan & they don't like it because of the rear cocking, hit me up, I don't think I would mind it. Shot a matador not too long ago and I really liked it even w/ the rear cocking. Btw, remember when Ed couldn't supply the matadors fast enough? All rear cockers then.
Most folks who don't like the Veteran because of its rear cocking lever, have never owned one! I don't think you will find many disappointed owners.

...and then Ed decided to evolve and came up with the R5M with dual mid cocking side levers. Go figure.

VERY FEW people who have actually shot a taipan gripe about the rear cocking, its usually the ones who never shot it that just blow it off because it isn't forward cocking. I have let 50 year pb veterans shoot my taipans, airgun enthusiasts who have had everything but, not a single one didnt say "OMG this is the most well put together rifle ive shot and that says something", one sold off every rifle they had and bought 3 Taipans in 3 calibers and size configurations..... Is the rear cocking optimal? **** NO! is it its only flaw? IMO YES! There is no trigger better, no more robust rifle, and from my personal experience I have not experienced a more consistent AND reliable rifle either.

However!!!

To each their own. Buy what you like.

Its funny how some use words like, “gripe, fuss against”, etc. why can’t someone simply “not like” rear cocking guns… no matter the guns other attributes? I don’t have to “hold one” to know I won’t be buying one. No one is “against this gun” there are just better choices for many.

Its perfectly ok to not like rear cocking guns, my comment simply came from experience from people who did snarl at the idea , then shot them, and quickly changed their mind. It was also prefaced with "VERY FEW people who have actually shot a taipan". So again it just comes down to the PERSONAL experience much like the choice to not buy one comes down to PERSONAL preference. It's just as ok for me to say that as it is to not buy one because you don't want one.

Or knowing what one likes… certain “form factors” just don’t appeal. The market, and more importantly, shooters have spoken. Rear cockers are not leading the way. SNARL!!!😁👍

Lead the way no, but neither did the tortoise :) 6 years unchanged speaks a lot and us who own them love them for it.

Happy shooting, enjoy the weekend!

Agree totally. I always find the personal opinions of others interesting, and often helpful. But, I also find it tiresome when personal opinions are presented as the standard, rather than just one person's preference. This Veteran rear cocking thing is simply a design feature that you accept, or not. There is no stronger feedback to a maker than lost sales due to a certain feature. If Taipan believes that their market share is unacceptable due to a rear cocking feature, I expect it might change. Personally, I would prefer it left as is, but again, that's just my preference. I will own the rifle either way.
