Other The IZH46M Achilles Heel

We all know about the cheap pot metal cocking shoe AA uses with the TX200 and ProSport.
We also know about the cheap screws used in the IZH46M grips.
What we did not know was the other cheap, pot metal parts used in the 46M.
Part #51.
The cocking linkage that retracts and compresses the piston into the chamber.
Last night at the Diablo Indoor 10M match in Bay Point, CA, I was starting my pre-match practice and, after firing three pellets, I noticed the cocking handle hanging freely from the pistol.
I tried to close it but couldn’t because the linkage was broken and was jammed into the slot where it normally resides.
I do not know if pot metal can be welded or not. (I will check with the Motörhead.)
A fellow shooter who is knowledgeable about metallurgy said it was poorly made at the factory.
I am sure I cannot get a replacement part.
If it cannot be fixed, I will be selling the grips, trigger, and several o-ring/gasket kits…

Glad you're still competing. That's cool. I'm sure this is disappointing. Those pistols are selling for enough that for me it would be worth buying the gun from you and making the part. Except I don't think I want one. Perhaps someone else that wants one and capable will contact you.
Similar metals can be soldered with the correct method but I wouldn't rely on that for this part. Doesn't look like a hard part to reproduce from what I see.

@Frank in Fairfield

Don't get in a hurry to sell this as a parts gun. I bet there is a fair and equitable solution that will get this pistol back in the game. I'll start looking around. I have one of these 46Ms as well and the "hunt" might prove useful to me in the future. I suspect there are some 46M experts out there that already have or know the solution.

P.S. Have you gone on Target Talk about this issue with your pistol?

the chances of that being cast metal so about zero and as to pot metal it is not that because it is magnetic
the piece on mine is nicely machine
so i would send it to someone that can take it apart from the linkage 2 rivets and have a new piece made with a laser cutting
the cost would be to save the gun machine
Frank i understand your frustration i am 75 and this sort of thing just pi$$es me off i spend four hours look for things for you young guys get old is not easy
it can be fixed the two pieces can be micro welded and if you have the piece made make some for all of us it will spend the cost

all i have, good luck and be well

I do not have the skills and at soon to be 80, I have not the interest.
If Scott cannot weld it the parts will be sold.
you can't weld pot metal. It will break very quickly if you do. That is a simple part, it would not take a very skilled person to make that part out of scrap tool steel, I'm sure there are several people on this board that could take the pieces as a template and make a new one at a reasonable price, probably not much north of 100 dollars, possibly a lot less depending how generous they are. If it was mine, I'd make a call and see if paladin machine service is still in business, he was very old the last time I used him several years ago. I've had several taper mounts made by him for my 30 cal suppressor, cheaper than the manufacturer, had two of these made in 1/2x28 and 5/8x24 and 3 much longer dual chamber brakes that do the same thing, barely 200 in them and they take lathe and mill work to make, and have to be perfect for alignment of suppressor. Paladin is solely owned/operated by a retired machinist just supplementing his retirement. He may be too old now, have to call him.

I have had pot metal brazed,it was thicker than the piece you have.Best bet is to have another one made up out of better metal.this is not hard for those with the time and means..
I understand your thoughts—like I don't have time for that! Good luck, and maybe there is a source for a new superior leakage.

Look on Gatewaytoairguns and track down this gentleman https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=208165.0 I do not know him but he may be able to help you. The part looks easy enough to make from flat stock and a belt sander. Aluminum or mild steel should do the trick.
I wish I had time, I enjoy to make parts for people, but I barely have time to do my own thing lately. So much going on for me and our family and work.
If it's steel the end might be built up with weld and machined or worked by hand without removing the piston

the piece could be scanned into a plasma cutter and made very easy the damn cutter could cut dozens in the time you could drink a cup of coffee
but it will take some luck to find the right people and of course it will need some heat treating and no it is not pot metal a magnet grabs it like anything but the quality of the steel is unknown but the finish work is fine on mine

i have an email into Air Venturi about the chance they have any parts but i would not hold out hope
and no i am not taking mine apart to make the part
