The life and HARD TIMES of a Field Target ... "Target"

All in fun, little bit of education and nothing too serious.
Some of the air gun community gets the opportunity in shooting the competitive game of Field Target. In this game we use knock down steel target reset with a pull string. Power on guns allowed are Sub 20 FPE so as not to damage targets. Which is sort of the point of this semi humorous thread which not only shows the fun we have in painting these targets before every match, but what degree of damage happens every match.
* Shown are targets that "Were" freshly painted before last Sundays SVFTC match and what they look like after 26 competitors took 2 shoots as each ... equaling 52 shots impacting the face plate or paddle of each.
This just a sampling of the 28 individual targets used this past Sunday .... For the most part if targets were actual game, most would be toast !! but in Field target only shooting into the KZ hole counts.
Random sizing shown, smaller are shot closer and larger further out ... 10 to 55 yards

Fun game and if it were easy wheres the challenge ? ... had we not missed so many we all would have got a higher score LOL

LOL....even FT targets on my back woods lane take a beating, even from my 13ish fpe .177 R9 and HW95, especially the closer targets.

The front, back & paddle of an old design Gamo target paddle being perforated by 7.9 grain CPLs (older Gamo targets had thicker metal than the newer offering).......







Here is the above repaired target after inserting the head of a machined carriage bolt in the perforation.........





The hole in the home turned steel reducer was "hardened" with a machined steel bolt and this pis shows where the edges of the killzone are being eroded by CPLs at 13ish fpe.............

What's all that color on them? We usually get flat black on flatter black and out in the woods at some of the matches I've been to

In our club we had a debate a few years ago .... that being the advantage OPEN & WFTF shooters with high magnification optics had over those in the HUNTER classes at 12x ( tho now 16x ) in accurate range finding. back a few years at 12x it is really hard to get a good focus and accurate range on a mono chromatic target ( Black or White ) and targets with texture and color were easier to range on ... so we did. Guys with the big scopes gained little, hunter guys a lot !

Down side being & in reality makes you try harder ... is you can't spot your misses easily and use that info to perhaps get your second shot better centered of hit the paddle period.

As the maitainance person for the club targets, have offered to ANY CLUB MEMBER if they were willing to take over the chore of target maintenance & upkeep, they could paint them any way they like !! ...... 5+ years running & no takers, so this old hippy does em like this.

I’m always adding paint to mine. I like mine dark colored with the bull lighter so the crosshairs have high contrast
