The flared muzzle had two purposes.Blunderbuss :blunderbuss, short, muzzle-loading shoulder weapon, usually a flintlock, with a wide smooth bore flared at the muzzle to a maximum width of about 4 inches (10 centimetres). The flaring was intended to scatter the shot at very close range, an effect that later scientific experiments showed did not occur.
Go for it! Just a matter of finding an old bugle to desecrate, putting something on the lathe to make it sort of fit, and hammering it down the chute. Good ol' plastic deformation will do the rest. Tap it with your favorite thread, drill some screw holes in, tadaaa.Der -

Is it ok if I try my hand at it ? May try it on a pistol..! I see a trip to the local Pawn Shop to see what instruments can be had cheaply.
