The Maximus is en route

ztirffritz,
I know what you mean. I also had to jump through hoops to hide a new airgun purchase but eventually she will see the gun. For example, I bought my prod months ago and my wife first saw the gun a few weeks ago. She asked what gun was that and I told her what it was. I could tell she had more questions but didn't ask them

Well the .22 Maximus came in this morning. It was at around 900 on the gauge so at least I know it holds air. I have no way to charge it yet. So testing will be in the next few days.

This is a road I said I was not going down yet. So much for that. This week I also have a .22 Marauder that has been shipped and a hill pump that has been shipped.
So knowing how I am it will take about a week for me to order a new compressor to feed a freedom10 shoebox that I'll order.(unless I go for the $3k all in one compressor). And of course a bottle to take to the range.

See how bumpy my road is getting? Now the less expensive rifles will be fun and the grandsons that live next door will love using them also. But knowing how this works, I'll need at least 2 nicer pcp rifles. One I would say will be a bull pup and the other something like a Air Arms S510.

So as you all know that list can be long. Maybe just a FX .25 bobcat and .30 Impact? Or a Vulcan?

anyway its a rough road, here is the start of this madness

Ok let me update this new rifle..............I ordered a .22 Maximus and the pellets that came with the rifle case are .22. But guess what the rifle is a .177. So now I have to print a return label and drive to the ups store and send it back and then they will send me a .22 like I ordered in the first place. I'm thinking its Chips fault? And they didn't offer a free sling or anything for my trouble so I guess life goes on.

Nice looking stock-has the vibe of no frills powder burner. I had a Katana (Disco with a Marauder trigger group and different stock) a few years back, it had a good barrel but suffered from POI shifts. I finally sold it and got a Marauder in .22, mine is a shooter. Here's a pic of the Katana for the record book. Wonder if the gen 1 Marauder trigger group will work with that synthetic stock?

I haven't shot the gun yet, but I did unbox it and I can share my first impressions. Out of the box it was filthy. Not like there's a little oil on it, but more like there's oil dripping off of it. I took the gun out of the stock and drained it. There were little puddles of oil in the stock. I wiped down the barrel and action, cleaned it and applied some Ballistol. I cleaned the barrel. It actually wasn't too bad. There was a wad of what appeared to be grease around the quick connect, but it may have been thread sealant. I'm not sure. At any rate, there was far more than was needed so I wiped the excess off. The gun is pretty hard to cock compared to my Marauder. It is lightweight in comparison though. The optical sights seem to be serviceable. It had about 900psi in the tank when I received it, so no leaks. My biggest concern, and I hope that someone else with a Maximus or a Discovery can chime in here, is the safety...or lack of. It appears to be a little pin that's held in with a spring, but I don't see how it does anything. The pin isn't long enough to push either direction. It's flush with the trigger guard. I suspect that I'm missing a part of the safety/trigger assembly. I'm able to dry fire the gun so obviously the safety isn't 'on', but that's actually worse in my opinion. I'll be talking to Crosman about that. On the whole, I'd say it's about $175 worth of gun, and it has some kinks to work out before it will be ready for mass deployment.
