The Minimalist Marauder

My objective in developing this project was to create a stripped down Marauder that has better ergos and is comfortable to use while making it easier to take out in the woods with. I also wanted to use the same trigger rather than using a Prod trigger group/grip and a way to still attach accessories such as a bipod. Here is what I came up with. The retracting stock has multiple locking points so It can be adjusted on the fly for a variety of positions and adapt to different shooters' sizes. I shaved off about a pound of weight from the wood stock.

Yeah ... and maybe you wont have the problem I have on my .22 synrod. Took it out of the stock this weekend and had a red band of rust on the bottom of the air tube where it comes into contact with that rubber insert in the synthetic forearm. I buffed it out with some steel wool but it's got some pitting on the outside of the air tube. I may end up having to replace the tube ... 3000 psi air tubes with rust on them tend to worry me.

Hey Lee, good job on your work. I still much prefer the prod trigger group over the mrod trigger group as it moves the trigger forward 3 inches which is 12% better balance. But for those that don't care and would prefer to retain the stock marauder trigger group this is brilliant.

I would add you should copy my cheek rest design that I modified based on yours. It holds up to 3 magazines. (really secured, takes 5lbs + force to remove a mag) (I left enough kydex that wrapped around the carbon tubes to act as a 'clip')

I also have a weaver rail on order I will be attaching to the front of my foregrip to which I'll add the same accessories you have on yours.

"Groundhog"Very nice fellas , both rifles look great . Where does that stock come from , working on planning a gen 1 regulated carbine build and that stock would be perfect or a folding ar .
I designed that stock last summer to fit ackuric's Gen II. I took that same design and his feedback to adapte it to fit the Gen I Mrod. The only thing I don't like about fitting AR stocks to the Mrod or Prod for that matter is the extra length and it blocks the preload adjustment.

Thanks man! I do like what you did with your cheek rest. That kydex is some amazing stuff! I was thinking about designing a mag holder that would mount into the inside of the buttplate. The Mrod I did here is a Gen I and the trigger group is more to the rear than the Gen II. I will have to get a Gen II for comparison.

"ackuric"Oh I saw on the other forum you mention something along the lines of sidelever breech? If you could literally pull off a sidelever breech for a marauder that would be economical for both you and the customer, you would sell A LOT. I would buy 1 for < 200$ :)
That thought did come up. There are two ways I thought about doing it. Either modify the current breech to accept a side lever or make a new breech made specifically for a side lever.

The prod trigger group from Crossman is roughly 30$ with the grips. I forget the exact price but 30$ should get it shipped to your door + or - a few bucks. You are required to drill+tap new mounting points for the prod trigger group on a marauder tube.

The cheek rest I did required me to glue 4 small delrin rods at each corner of the rest inside where the rod slides, as my fold unlike yours doesn't go around the rods to secure the cheek rest, so the rest is pinned in by the rods I mentioned. I also use a 5th small delrin rod that slides into place of the shoulder stock when removed to retain the spring + button while its removed. Very convenient.

Here is two close ups of my cheekrest in case you or anyone else wants to use it for themselves ;)

That would be a place for moister to gather...if the pitting is really shallow you should be ok. There is another out there that is offering an aluminum maintube. You would have the benefit of corrosion resistance and reduced weight.

Now I see how you modded your rest to hold the mags in place. Thanks for the explanation&pics.
