The Nemesis Squirrel

Hello everyone

About three months ago I saw a big fat Squirrel in one of my bird feeders. The feeder by the way is built so that a Squirrel is not supposed to be able to get into it. Anyway by the time I got one of my PCP guns ready to shoot and very quietly side open the window, that guy had moved down my property line about 30 yards. I was shooting a .22 cal rifle with a scope so I took aim and shot. I saw where the pellet hit and it was just inches directly behind him so I missed.

A week or so later I had another chance at this guy and I know it is the same Squirrel because of some distinct markings. Two white tufted ears and a Brown Line down the back of his head. Had a good clean shot and missed again :(. During the next month I had two more open clean shots and nothing but misses  .

Finally I caught this guy right under the closest feeder about 20 feet, no way can I miss this shot, ...... yep sure did and I am pretty sure he flipped me the bird as he ran off into the woods. There was a yellow leaf on the ground right next to where he had been and I aimed at it and dead center hit  ????

Well time is on my side and this afternoon my patients paid off. I had my Custom PP-800R .22 cal in the shop and on the shooting bench where I had been shooting some paper targets. So all I have to do is slide the window open without making any noise and make my shot. I got the window open but now he had moved out to about 20 yards but stopped and stood upright. I placed the crosshairs right on that Brown Mark on the back of his head and .... well the attached photo tells the rest of this story.

I enjoyed the story to go with a ghosted squirrel.

Congrats!
I struggle when I have a scope zeroed at say 30 yards, and then suddenly my target is up close, at say 10 yards.
I really need to practice at shorter distances than where I have the scope is zeroed at.
I am also guilty of constantly changing scopes/rifles, and I really need to keep things consistant, to improve accuracy.
I know it's spendy but they can be had 400 under msrp if you look. The arken zulus with the built in range finder. Chrono your gun, the app has pellets in it, plug in the data, program the optic and it's ready to roll. Mines ranged and shown where to hold on 15-150 yard pest hits thus far perfectly. It's game changing and feels like cheating. I still miss but that's my fault, not the gear.

There's one more option I find almost as easy. Range find your typical spots and put scope stickers on your turrets if theyre tall ones. Eventually you don't have to range find for the shot. Setting targets at those positions and dialing till it hits correctly, dropping a sticker there on the turret and moving to the next distance is fun and easy. It just so happens that my main ranges are 15, 45, 64, 93 yards😁. Works for holding or dialing if your memory works better than mine (or if you write a cheat sheet on a piece of tape stuck inside a flip up scope cap)

My goodness..What are you feeding those squirrels ...chunky boy!!
Hello @manabeknives

Well they have an acre of Acorns that are falling on the ground plus what Bird Seeds they can steal. They are welcome to all of the Acorns but stealing the Bird Seeds can be a bit risky :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for a nice story. I did nothing but miss the whole month of October, the start of the season here. Then I shot 5 in November. I was using my P35-177 on all the hits and most of the misses. I'm sure some misses were me getting excited but I decided to shoot a target where the first cell was the first shot, the one right of that the second etc. I did not shoot again for at least 12 hours. I found out the H&N FTT that work well on 30 yard challenge targets were not as dependable for the first shot as the Baracuda Match I previously used. I switched and started connecting.
