The passing of an old friend?

Hi All

Not sure if this is even allowed here and if it's not, please admin do your thing :)

Anywho, I just tried to go to the old Crosman Green Forum and I was redirected to a page that says the Green is no more :(

Sadly the Green began to dwindle years ago and lost the following it once had.

I believe myself and others here at the great AGN cut their forum teeth over at the Green forum years ago.

I know it was what got me started back into airguns again. Modifying and tuning was a pleasure I adored. And relaxed me greatly after a long day at work.

I looked forward to the latest builds and tips from Mr. Bob Sterne, Bioman, Duane and of coarse the ever astute SteveNC.

I think the airgun community is better off for all the advancements these men have brought to the forum boards. I for one am very appreciative for it.

Some of those men have migrated here and to other forums and that's a good thing. To keep the sport of airgunning alive and well on into the future.

Thanks ole Green, you will be surely missed.

The poor poor Crosman Green. It received a one two three punch and it’s out. It is also most definitely missed.

I cut my teeth with airgun repair on the old Crosman forums. I was already experimenting, on Crosman airguns, and happened to come across the Crosman forum while surfing the net one day. Back then it was the very early Crosman Brown forum. So, first it was the Brown until a hostile takeover occurred where many of us lost money and guns. Back then most of us quickly migrated to the New Crosman Green to get away from it all. The Brown quickly died and became the Greens archives. The Green is where so many of us learned so much thanks to those who were willing experiment and to share. The sharing part was a new thing to airgunners back then as many held on tightly to their knowledge base.

After some years the Green changed hands again and Dan took it over. After that the nasty Photobucket fiasco where they decided to charge us thirty dollars a month to keep our once free accounts open occurred. Needless to say few forked out that kind of money to keep their accounts. So over of a decade’s worth of pics on many forums disappeared, in a few days, which I expect led to the demise of many of the forums for the most part. So, for me a decade plus of werq on the Crosman Green forum, Endless Sphere electric bike forum and the Nightvision forum, in the UK, all disappeared in a few days. It was a sad thing for me when I was in a very rough place already.

Then the Greens provider lovingly known as Notwerq54 died and the forum had to be archived and restarted basically. The way-back archives, it ended up with, did not werq all that well. Although when I recently tried it it actually kind of werqed for me for the first time in the many years I tried to use it.

Blending the ten to fifteen year old software with the current was no easy task and it doesn't look like anyone was really up to it.

I think there was another provider change in here somewhere as well.

Did my best to explain things not sure the order is correct but it is the best I can do at this time.

Dan can add to this or correct the order if he wishes.

The three people mentioned in the post above are all still around here and are active on various forums as far as I know.

Still that was then and this is now.

Thanks to Michael we have this wonderful forum. It’s the best ever as far as I can see. This is the place where we can all safely share our airgun triumphs and pitfalls in a positive way.

Thanks Michael

Hey Bob, I think you know I'm color blind but I have to ask if you guys are talking about the Old Yellow forum that turned into Airgun Warriors? I truly do miss that forum.

Just wondering for I'm not sure I remember a Green forum. We're getting older as you know and memory isn't what it use to be. Been meaning to call you for I don't believe we have spoken for a couple years. It doesn't seem possible that Joe has been gone almost 7 years.. Hope you Pelletiers are staying safe down there in WV and maybe we can catch back up again in Rochester, NY or the PYA cup. Regards, Bill Day

Bio has it about nailed. Forums on the Network54 platform were given the choice of migrating to TAPATALK or losing the forum when NW54 shutdown. At issue there was the “cutover” to TAPATALK wanst seamless, didnt work correctly for many. After that we moved it to ProBoards, registered the URL and went back to it.

While the ol’ green and the ol’ Yellow were scrambling to find new homes, places like GTA (and later, AGN...) were the landing spot for a lot of the members from those forums. So new software for them, hostile user registrations, format changes.... and many online communities didnt make it. Green suffered from other issues too(time, money, other obligations)....

Drop Michael a line and thank him for the effort he’s made developing this community. I know first hand the things he’s had to deal with, and I am very grateful this forum exists...
