We often see, mostly on YOUTUBE these guys selling or promoting a PCP gun and have their reserve air tank connected to their rifles. I can never tell if the tank valve is always open or off just so they don't have to disconnect to fill the guns tank.

Not that it matters either way but if I have my big reserve tank at 4000 psi I would think that they only have the umbilical cord connected just to save them time from dis or connecting the air line.

I've noticed that some or most of my rifles stop filling once the pressure hits around 3k. But there's all these warnings to NEVER over fill.

Nothing here about this post that means much, just something that makes me wonder. To me, it would seem like the air hose would get in the way more than be a benefit.

The "Correct" way to Tether your PCP to a tank...
You use a High Pressure Regulator.... to step down the pressure to the
Fill pressure for your PCP.

I use an Aqua Environment 415-5000..

Thanks man, I had no idea about that.
I just might look into it more and see what the cost is. None of the videos I've seen had such a setup.
Much appreciated .
@JOERM not all external regulators look like @Ca_Varminter’s. If I remember correctly he built his from individual components. An example of smaller ones would be the Huma Air in-line regulators. I think Altaros also makes a smaller in-line external regulator for tethering. Those are a couple to look at. There are a few good threads on tethering that I’ve come across on the forums. Here’s one

When you see those YouTubers tethering their guns that means they’re intending on doing a lot of shooting from a bench, table, or prone position. Or they may have a big bore airgun that uses a lot of air and they intended to take several shots with it like an Airforce Texan. It’s convenient to remain tethered as opposed to having to stop and refill a gun’s reservoir every few shots.

Another way to tether if you don’t have a regulator is to only fill your SCBA tank to your guns max fill pressure. By doing that you can leave the SCBA tank valve open and you’ve massively increased your guns reservoir. Obviously you won’t get as many shots as a set up with a regulator but it’s going to be a lot.
