"The Pee Wee .177"

Hello @Fleming

I shoot a lot of paper targets all year round and have sold all of my other caliber guns and now shoot .177 caliber only. Just love the challenge.

Thomas,

"Just love the challenge" is an understatement because whether I'm shooting one of my springers or one of my PCPs, it's always going to be a challenge.

I have two .177 PCPs, an unregulated Huntsman, I consider my most accurate air gun and a Wolverine R, .177s aren't much account of a day like this though...Tropical storm Nicole is going right over Ceder Key Fla. with 50-60mph gusty winds...not much rain yet but no shootin' today!
Our prayers are for everyone there but we also hope better shooting days are just around the corner for you!

"a Daystate Revere and Diana 45" The RWS 45 was my very first "adult" springer in 1983 and the rest has been history that's taken a dark trip down the "Dark Side". The Daystate Revere in .177 is 1 of 4 PCPs that I've purchase within the last year or so, my Revere is a true shooter as Daystates have always been.

Some months ago, as "Simplyhooked", I posted a question concerning the "Pee Wee" .177 and I must say that I've gone head-over-heels" enjoying my .177 PCPs! Within the last 18 months, I've bought the Brocock Concept Light, the Daystate Revere, the Dreamline Tactical and the FX Maverick Compact all in .177. There is something very unique all shooting .177s and their accuracy whether it's on paper, feathers and even fur. I've not chronograph them yet but I do love the accuracy of these excellent and well built PCPs. Just my $00.02.
I could keep going and thanking everyone that's responded to my OP but it's just great knowing that there's still a huge following of ".177 shooters".

I have a HW100 carbine in .177, tuned to 11.5 fpe. It's my favorite yard rifle, both for targets and squirrels. My range is generally limited to around 35 yards, and the power of the .177 has been very adequate. It's practically silent, and the shot count is 80+. Sometimes we Americans are our own worst enemy, and demanding more power in everything is a clear example. This is one of many rifles designed around the lower European power standard, and it really shines when used in that manner.

love the 177 dreamline fx stuff and avenger 177 pup both as accurate as m3 22 cal really fun shooting 177 except the wind really hates the 177 but sure ids a good chalange for reading the wind
douger,

The FX Dreamline Tactical is well balanced, IMO and it's very easy for me to shoot off handed but shot placement is still crucial when taking small game!

elh0102,

"Sometimes we Americans are our own worst enemy, and demanding more power in everything is a clear example."

Sometimes more power is a total waste as with less power isn't enough, I'm still of the conviction that "shot placement" is the key to any successful shoot whether it's paper or prey!

Slugs and heavier pellets have really rekindled my love for .177. Once you break the 20 fpe barrier the pee wee becomes a flat shooting hammer. There's nothing wrong with lower power levels either.

EdinGa I know what you mean. Right now have the M3 177 at 29 fpe with slugs. Very accurate and a hammer to all pests around my property! The sound those little slugs make when I hit those pack rats and ground squirrels brings a smile to my face every time!!! :)

I've got a regulator coming for my Stormrider but I'm on the fence about regulating it or just tuning it for more power with slugs. I've been shooting wadcutters at supersonic velocities with pretty decent accuracy and they sure do the job when they hit. I keep my shots under 20 yards and the pop they make is impressive.

Yep. Useless caliber. Totally inadequate......
