Went out for a few hours, my setup on these particular rats is still evolving. By tonight's results it's evident I need to do more work. The mixed lighting and the overhead light in my face are trying. I stupidly forgot my red light, which I have been setting up on a tripod. Anyway from the photo you can see how awful the lighting is. I had three opportunities and only scored on one! I'm shooting at the rats in the extreme left of the frame. That's a hanging feeder in the distance. While the West Hunter scope has been great during the day. In these conditions, without the red light? My hit ratio suffered. Lessons learned.

Luis, in that darkness without your red flashlight, to hit just one is pretty amazing! Great shot! I purchased this inexpensive tiny red flashlight off of amazon....comes with a picatinny rail mount...about 3.5"....under 25 bucks.
Can leave mounted it's so small.

Luis you did good, as any shooting done under those eye piercing lights, would require some miracle shooting for me.
They need some sort of shades to redirect the intense lighting away from you. Also on the colored red / green light issue?
I've found that the green light work best for my sad night vision eyes.
Hunting rats whether two or four legged is indeed a tricky proposition, in that they have a natural edge on their darkened asymmetrical landscape. While we the sojourner must learn and develop our own strict discipline to have a chance of being successful against them on it. And now back to work stalking as it's another night shift for this rat patrol. :coffee: :coffee: o_O

A fellow forum member has offered a loan of his Wraith mini for me to try. Then I would go after then in full darkness. Really excited to try it. I have killed hundreds of rats using the red light on my PP700sa. The rats alerted more to my use of the green light. But this particular situations seems to require full darkness. To be determined soon.

Luis if affordable in one's budget NV is the only way to go for any serious night work.
Your lucky in that a fellow kind hearted member is permitting use of their NV equipment.
Once you cross that bridge my friend, darkness is no longer a bad thing, it's now your friend.
Last night this morning I got two fat avocado eating raccoons.
Using my Prod DARKNESS with it's bought new but now ole school still operational Sight Mark NV. :cool:

When I was shooting rats the red led lamp worked for a bit, it seems that the rats start to notice when an odd light was around as that's when they started being offed. Using the nightvision cam you have a IR torch, fortunately/unfortunately I don't have a rat problem anymore to verify if they are skittish with the IR. This is my old ratting rig, think it was set at 18ftlb. AA S410 TDR .22, with a red LED torch mounted to the bipod which slides in the forend rail. The light uses a 18650 battery and has a threaded stud on it as it's meant for a bow mount.
