The "RAW" Experience

I began shooting airguns a little over a year ago to help practice fundamentals for my obsession at that time: NRA F-Class shooting. Little did I know that after thousands of pellets through a MROD in my backyard would air gunning replace the time spent shooting powder burners 600 and 4000 yds. Fast forward to today, and although I love shooting airguns, I long for competition. A friend, Baxter Walton (bwaltonpcp.net) shot this year's EBR and inspired me to concentrate on and prepare for next year's match.

After researching traditional air rifle benchrest shooting and the rifles that rule the sport, I contacted Martin at Rapid Air Weapons. After finding out I live in Florida, he put me in touch with Ken Hicks who only lives the next county over. Ken and I spoke that same day and after several conversations, he invited me to come out to his place to shoot his stable of RAW rifles. I asked if I should bring anything and he replied, "I have everything we need." And did he ever! I anticipated a nice backyard to practice, but Ken has a 125 yard approved USARB range with 8 concrete benches. Ken sat me down behind his EBR winning BM500 and pulling that RAW trigger while looking through Sightron set at 50x was pretty much life-changing. After getting used to the gun and a quick wind reading lesson from Ken, I was regularly placing the 13.4 grain JSB Monsters inside the 8 ring. Over a couple of hours, Ken graciously allowed me to shoot several RAWs including TM and HM models with different stock configurations in .177, .25, and .30 calibers. I ordered my RAW before I left his property.

I want to thank Ken for the RAW experience. Initially, the rifle price put me off, but after shooting the EXACT model I want for the EXACT purpose I want, the precision and accuracy are worth every penny. I'll see everyone in Arizona next year!

i have a raw bm500 with lrt stock as well in 177 and its amazing. I have shot no finer rifle

I got both lw barrel and poly because. I find both barrels liked different pellets and sizes at different ranges.
I found with experimenting. the lw barrel was more accurate and then on the other hand the poly was more accurate.
both have their place.. I was finding the poly barrel like to be shot fast and the lw a little slower.
its great to have at least 2 different barrels to play around with and experiment with.
