The real cost of my $60 Crosman 2240

So I started this 2240 build back in early 2000-2004 somewhere. I kept on adding new parts as they came along year after year. Like a nice DAQ real steel breech which I replaced 15 or so years later with an aluminum multi-shot by Custom Air Shop. One of Steve's wonderful adjustable sears made the trigger sweet. Some nice RB grips which are still on the gun near twenty years later. Then the need for speed came along so I put a tank on it and another barrel which I replaced many years later with an Impact STX barrel. As I got older I could barely see the paintballs I was shooting at at 50 and 60 yards with the old 4X scope so put a Discovery 3x12x44 compact on it. But that was only after I tried a Vector optics Veyron 3x12 FFP first that I did not like.

Lets remember though it took me twenty years to turn this $60 pistol into a $1005+ pistol. 😳

So I failed to mention that it shoots like a near $1000 pistol as well.

I really had no idea of how much I had spent on this thing over the years. Quite the surprise!

Was it worth it? Sure it was so many hours of fun modding and tuning and shooting and...

Gun $60

Breech DAQ $80

Breech 10 shot $200

Scope $170

Tank and reg $120

FX Barrel $110

Drop forward $60

Grips $60

Sear $35

Fake co2 $40

Misc. $40

Carbon fiber $30

Total $1005

Don't worry about the money you spend, as long as it brings a smile into your face, you're good to go, anyway that's what money is for.

Yup I believe that is true. ;^)

You will never lose money if you keep it forever.

Yes, I will be keeping it cuz I still have a little money left yet. ;^)

I know the feeling but I ordered all my parts within two weeks. I don't think I'll add more parts but I have a few ideas for another 2240 project.

Crosman's ultimate lego gun. What a brilliant strategy! And they make you think you are in control, ha.

Yes, they make you think you are in the drivers seat alright but we know better. When the addiction whispers we start throwing the cash down for the new guns and upgrades.

Man that looks like so much fun to shoot some rats with. Great work!

I have been thinking it would be a better rat gun than the rifle I built for that purpose.

Love it! And yes, I "get it". I started off with a 2250 that is now a 2260 HPA. Enjoyed the slow build over the years. Recently ordered a 2300 KT with 14.6 LW and immediately converted to a 1760 HPA. After market valves, Huma regs, dead-blow hammers, extended probes, P-rod trigger groups, etc. I acquired a Challenger stock that I plan to custom fit to the 1760. Airgunning is a hobby...yeah I throw a few buck into the rabbit hole all the time. I cringe a bit when I think of the dollars dropped into these. 😁

Count me in as another one that "gets it" -

Bio - you and a handfull of other folks from the old green forum inspired me to come up with cool combos - THANKS for the inspiration!

Stace breech, Cothran tube & valve, Charles Mellon prepped 19.5" Crosman 22 barrel, P-Rod trigger group, Tom West stock, Armorcore 15ci/4500 psi bottle

And of course, after adding the new reg & bottle, that left me with a lonley 3000 psi bottle & reg, BUT - all I had to do was order another drop block from JDS Airman, and add parts from my Crosman trick bag, voila:

And of course, another stock is in the future, etc, etc, and so on ....

A Pard 008 on it would be really sick!!! It would totally be the reaper of rats!!

I have been thinking about that. I already have a ATN 4K but I think it is a bit large and heavy for the pistol. I recently acquired a Leupold Tracker LTO thermal unit though and if things werq out I may not need anything else. We will see I guess.
