The state of trying to buy a new SSP air pistol.

Hello all,

New member here. Maybe you can relate to my plight. Recently I was gifted an HW95. Like a junkie, the first hit was free. Also like a junkie, or a not particularly clever fish, I have been hooked.

Now I’d like to expand my collection, starting with an air pistol. Due to sound constraints, and not really feeling like buying a whole set of auxiliary equipment, I think a single shot pneumatic pistol is just the thing I’m looking for. I’d love to practice accurate shots, hone in grouping. Ya know, match style shooting in the back yard.

Am I late to the party? Have I missed the golden era of SSPs? There seems to be only one model that isn’t a Glock or 1911 lookalike that appears to be in stock, and it is still anpparently attempting to be a 1911 lookalike.

I don’t just mean this post as a whine fest, I am genuinely looking for advice. Is the HW75 worth $600? Is the AV V10 worth $300? Or would that money be better spent on a used air pistol from a classifieds ad?

Does everyone like that these airguns are trying to look like firearms? Because I don’t. I like glocks and 1911s, but I love the kind of weird look that air pistols historically have. I love the look of the match grade PCPs and the Baikals (and the AV Baikal rerelease, I would love to get my hands one of either).

Let me know what you think, or let me know if I as a beginner am out of line.

i have an av10 i don't shoot anymore that is in very good shape that i will sell for $150

DM me if you are interested. its a great basement pistol!

Reximex rpa
you can get at Gun Zone Deals for $405. I can’t find anything in its price range comparable.

Just read your post again maybe I misunderstood, what’s SSP ?

That is a beautiful pistol, but I’m more in the market for the manual pump style pistol. Pneumatic is a little too loud and a lot expensive because I’ll need to get other equipment too.

I am interested! Can’t quite PM yet, new account restrictions, but I will shoot you a message about that soon.

Take a look at the Benjamin Marauder pistol. It’s a PCP but easily charged with a hand pump.

You are correct that an SSP is the right choice for your purposes. Unfortunately you are also correct in worrying you're late to the SSP party. All the best stuff is gone, and the HW75 is overpriced. It is the best SSP stuff still produced. So for an addict willing to pay the price for good stuff it might be worth the price of the fix. Blame The Law...

of supply and demand.

so, are you late to the party No the party is always going
are you late to the prime of the SSP pistols well most of us are
would-could the AV-10 that was afford be a good choice and at a good price yes
why everyone is pushing PCP guns when you state you don't want to go that way is hard to understand
so your choices new are few
Beeman P17 cheap a clone of the Weihrauch HW40 i have both and the P17 is so damn hard to cock it never gets used
the AV-10 which is the Gamo Compact that has been around for a long time a spring change can make it have a much better trigger
the Weihrauch HW75 the nice of the non target pistols not cheap and with what is going on could be very expensive
if you what the best in an older pistol the FWB 100 series would be my choice
Walther and Pardini have some nice pistols that are in the older class
the IZH 46-46m are around very nice pistols but few to no parts because they are-were made in Russia
the Zoraki HP-01-02 could be an option in can be a 1-2-3 pump pistol hard to find but those why own them like them very much
of Course there is the Daisy 717-747-777
oh there are more but i will let others color in the picture
i do believe that CO2 could be an option also and you have the Chaser by Snowpeak sold as a Diana i have 7 of them in different forms
all this hobby take is a pocket full of money

Mike in Washington state

Get a Daisy 717 or wait till you can find a 777 for a decent price. Here is a 717 ripe for picking. Easy gun to reseal yourself.

Here is another but this one might go for more than its worth:

You might also take a look at the HW45 and FWB65. These two, while both SSP, couldn’t be more different. The HW45 has a profound kick which makes it a challenge to master. It’s also quite powerful. The FWB65 has close to zero recoil and is a true target pistol
HW45 is a spring pistol, not SSP.
