The state of trying to buy a new SSP air pistol.

there are more but i will let others color in the picture

The FAS 604 was a fantastic SSP. I tied the NRA Air Pistol Silhouette national record with one by posting the third 39/40 ever recorded, beating all the PCP ten-meter pistols otherwise dominating at the time. Can't vouch for the current iteration (called the FAS 6004), but it looks identical-

so, are you late to the party No the party is always going
are you late to the prime of the SSP pistols well most of us are
would-could the AV-10 that was afford be a good choice and at a good price yes
why everyone is pushing PCP guns when you state you don't want to go that way is hard to understand
so your choices new are few
Beeman P17 cheap a clone of the Weihrauch HW40 i have both and the P17 is so damn hard to cock it never gets used
the AV-10 which is the Gamo Compact that has been around for a long time a spring change can make it have a much better trigger
the Weihrauch HW75 the nice of the non target pistols not cheap and with what is going on could be very expensive
if you what the best in an older pistol the FWB 100 series would be my choice
Walther and Pardini have some nice pistols that are in the older class
the IZH 46-46m are around very nice pistols but few to no parts because they are-were made in Russia
the Zoraki HP-01-02 could be an option in can be a 1-2-3 pump pistol hard to find but those why own them like them very much
of Course there is the Daisy 717-747-777
oh there are more but i will let others color in the picture
i do believe that CO2 could be an option also and you have the Chaser by Snowpeak sold as a Diana i have 7 of them in different forms
all this hobby take is a pocket full of money

Upvote for the Zoraki.
I can do most 10m target shooting on 1-2 pumps. Three pumps for longer range. Four pumps requires the strength of a gorilla and I can’t imagine needing all that power

There is a Baikal IZH 46M in the classifieds https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...case-seals-mount-and-updated-trigger.1328239/

Pretty much everything you could ask for in a 46M and priced accordingly! Prices of most all the SSP’s have, and will continue to climb. Many are highly collectible.
Plus one on that beautiful IZH46M in the classifieds! I would buy it in a minute if I didn’t already own it! Can it even be considered a shameless plug when it was dangling there like that?

Hello all,

New member here. Maybe you can relate to my plight. Recently I was gifted an HW95. Like a junkie, the first hit was free. Also like a junkie, or a not particularly clever fish, I have been hooked.

Now I’d like to expand my collection, starting with an air pistol. Due to sound constraints, and not really feeling like buying a whole set of auxiliary equipment, I think a single shot pneumatic pistol is just the thing I’m looking for. I’d love to practice accurate shots, hone in grouping. Ya know, match style shooting in the back yard.

Am I late to the party? Have I missed the golden era of SSPs? There seems to be only one model that isn’t a Glock or 1911 lookalike that appears to be in stock, and it is still anpparently attempting to be a 1911 lookalike.

I don’t just mean this post as a whine fest, I am genuinely looking for advice. Is the HW75 worth $600? Is the AV V10 worth $300? Or would that money be better spent on a used air pistol from a classifieds ad?

Does everyone like that these airguns are trying to look like firearms? Because I don’t. I like glocks and 1911s, but I love the kind of weird look that air pistols historically have. I love the look of the match grade PCPs and the Baikals (and the AV Baikal rerelease, I would love to get my hands one of either).

Let me know what you think, or let me know if I as a beginner am out of line.
Welcome to the best AGN
HW 75 is very good for what you want but $500 or so . the V10 mentioned above would be a good buy as mentioned b4 .
I like my IZH 46 M the best , very quiet SSP

It really is a beautiful gun. If it’s still available after I work a couple overtime shifts I’ll shoot you a message!

Get a Daisy 717 or wait till you can find a 777 for a decent price. Here is a 717 ripe for picking. Easy gun to reseal yourself.

Here is another but this one might go for more than its worth:
I would go for a Daisy 747 before the 717. better barrel , but for a target pistol the 777 outshines both, better barrel better sights and a steel vs aluminum cocking lever, finally target stocks.

You might also take a look at the HW45 and FWB65. These two, while both SSP, couldn’t be more different. The HW45 has a profound kick which makes it a challenge to master. It’s also quite powerful. The FWB65 has close to zero recoil and is a true target pistol
These are both spring air. not ssp.

If you can afford it this is the one to go for. If you do get it, ALWAYS make sure the little breech block(transfer port) that pops up so you can load, is always down and locked before you shoot, otherwise you will blow the breech seals out, and they are not easy to come by nowdays.

O-rings work great for the breech seal, there is a thread that Maxtrouble started on it. I bought a bag of them after I blew mine out and they are perfect. I still have some OEM seals, but I'll just use the o-rings.

Nomenclature break, LOL...

Commonly-used abbreviations:
MSP = Multi-Stroke Pneumatic
PCP = Pre-Charged Pneumatic
SSP = Single-Stroke Pneumatic

So...might these discussions might be facilitated by a few new ones..? :unsure::
CO2C = Carbon Dioxide/Cartridge
CO2T = Carbon Dioxide/Tank
SPN = Spring Piston/Normal
SPR = Spring Piston/Recoilless

So, back to the question. The OP's quest for a self-contained recoilless pistol could be met by any MSP, SSP, or SPR designs. Likewise a CO2C gun, which requires only a minimum of outside support. :p

Random pistols off the top of my head worthy of consideration (some of these are OOP designs going way back):

MSP: Crosman 1377 and 1322. Immortal design, kinda awesome guns for what they cost, tons of upgrades available.
SSP: Beeman P17. Yeah has the "military" look but unbelievable sights, trigger, and accuracy for pocket change.
SSP: Beeman P2 / HW 45. I agree overpriced but I gotta say I LOVED the only one I ever shot.
SSP: The IZH 46 / 46M / AV 46. Just fantastic guns.
SPR: FWB 65 / 80 are IMHO the finest springer air pistols ever made.
SPR: Diana models 6, 6G, 6M, 10. Fantasic guns with the Giss recoilless double pistons.
CO2C: Crosman 150 or any of its still existing descendants.
CO2C: TAU-7
CO2C: Hammerli Master
