Tuning The story of a 30 caliber FX Bobcat named Terminator

@pesty3782 The issue I had was that it would dump air somewhere within the stock. When I removed the air tube, it didn’t leak on its own from what I recall. When I gassed it up with the res screwed into the chasis, no problem. When I unscrewed it, refit the chasis into the stock, then re-affixed the air tube and stock it dumped air on me. I couldn’t figure out why and it was tough to take it apart to catch it before it got down to around 1000psi when the air dump would stop or slow. I purchased a new Huma reg, but didn’t install it. I sent i back with the rifle. I figured the issue may be a reg or valve issue, but I really didn’t know. I hope some of this info is useful to you.

Today I pulled Terminator out of the cabinet and noticed the air pressure was down to 120 bar 🤬 I thought I had all the air leaks takin care of.....So I filled it up with air and I just had to shoot it because there wasn't much wind this morning. So at 50 yards here is the 5 shot group...You can see above the other groups I got from it. If I can ever find the leak I will fix it, but I will have to take the rifle all apart again and I am not sure I want to do that right now.

Do I trust it to compete with it.....Not really, maybe a local match like silhouette or a bench rest competition, but it is not ready for the "Big" league’s yet.

HA! It's already been to the Big Leagues (EBR) in 2019... and did quite well I might add. :ROFLMAO:

My bet is the outer Orings on the Huma Reg. If it pushed in fairly easily, then more than likely that's the culprit. 15-minute job. Just go up slightly in ring diameter so that it slides in, but takes a decent push.

Hi!!
Sorry if I revive this thread a little bit untimely...
Great story & great looking Bobcat.

I have a Bobcat Mk1 in 30cal. One of the first ones to come out in 2013. Older stock... Action can be removed from stock without removing the airtube. I love the gun, it’s just the best shooting gun I have ever had, has a little edge over my Fx Boss also in 30cal. (which I also love). Those 50 yards groups bring memories to me...
Right now it has a leak, but I’m determined to restore it. It deserves it!

Did you finally get yours to seal properly?
Cheers.

Yes I have the air leaks all done so the bottle holds air perfectly Keeping my fingers crossed… . I took it on a trip to Oklahoma and Texas (Took it for a backup for Textreme, but never needed it. After getting home it still holds air, but has a small reg creep…It went from 150-160. Not sure when I will work on that yet. Two dry fires and I am back to 150.

So finally sat down and took the Bobcat all apart again. I found a small piece of O ring under where the regulator goes and a small "dent" in the sealing surface where the reg sits. It's to the left side of the photo....... I again cleaned the reg area and also the valve area and put it all back together. Over 2 hours no leak.....I know not a long time, but I wanted to shoot this rifle again.....

So I tuned Terminator at 870 FPS and started to shoot it at 50 yards. I tried two different holds and it certainly liked it better when I didn't have a firm grip on the rifle. A lot of 5 shot groups at 50 yards could be covered with a dime. Here are just 2 of them.

It's been a long time since I updated this thread. Terminator has held air and the same reg pressure since July 7th. I have been busy with a bunch of other things around the house and getting use to my Ghost 30 cal Specter....I have shot Terminator a few times at 50 yards and it does not disappoint at all.

I hope to get out in the next few days and sight it in at 50 yards again (Different scope on it now) Yeah I know Tweaker 😎 .....

I will shoot it at a local silhouette match on the 23rd of this month then the rifle will be up for sale.

It has been an honor and a great deal of fun reworking this awesome rifle back to life for the next owner to share.

So I got out today and sighted in a new scope on Terminator at 50 yards even though it was windy here....It is shooting the 44's right at 860 and doing pretty good. All groups are 5 shots except the really small one and that was the last 4 in the magazine.

This one is the 4 shot group...

The two 5 shot groups were the first ones after getting the scope dialed in and then the wind calmed down and I shot the 4 shot group.....No cherry picked groups, just the 3 I shot.

Looks like Terminator is back !!!!!
