Hey all,

I am currently searching for the Ultimate PCP. I've been shooting an Avenger 22 for a month or so, and am ready to lay down some cash for a high-end rifle.

I don't necessarily have a budget, but if I had to pick a number, including optics, bipod, moderator etc; let's say 4-5k.

I love to plink in my back yard and have done a bit of pesting with my AVA 22. It serves that purpose wonderfully. I am wanting something more powerful, a larger caliber, and with greater long range potential.

So far the FX Maverick Sniper and FX Impact M3 are at the top of my list. I like the bullpup layout, the high power output, adjustability, ability to change calibers/barrel length etc. Also love the aftermarket support and mods available.

I have a bit of funny money coming soon and I want to spoil myself a bit. I will mostly be long range target shooting, but want something effective for small to medium size game/pests as well.

Are there any other rifles comparable to what I'm looking for that I should research? The SK19 is definitely close to what I'm looking for, but availability and aftermarket support seem lacking when compared to FX. Im also not totally sold on the fixed magazine. I do want something I can modify, customize, tinker with.

On the upper limit of my price range is the Daystate Alpha or Delta Wolf. I've heard good things about them, but am not sure how user friendly they would be for a relative newbie.

Also, right now I am thinking of a 25 caliber due to availability and also price of ammo. 30 caliber would be my other consideration.

I would prefer a more tactical styled rifle, but am not totally opposed to a more traditional sporter/carbine layout.

Anyway, what should I get?

Better question yet is who is the best marksman with an air rifle. Yes, the top tier guns like RAW, Thomas, FX, Air arms, Steyr, Anschutz, Daystate, and some others are close to the best in accuracy. Each one, however, has to be massaged by the guy pulling the trigger to find the best pellet/power and learn each rifle’s idiosyncrasies as well as his own to get the best from it. We had a saying about the “new gun syndrome “. I’ve seen guys continuoly guy newer an better guns in their quest for better scores. It works for a while, then they sink back into their old bad habits. Winning takes hard work, practice and research into yourself and your techniques. You can’t buy winning scores. Find out what your bad habits are, admit guilt, and change them. My suggestion is to buy a good quality rifle that appeals to you and go to work. Swapping rifles from week to week is very counter productive.

Take a gander at the RAW HM1000x chassis model in 25 cal.

Mine has aftermarket stock and hand grip and a Grayops arca bottom rail. It's like most "tactical" powder burners - highly adaptable to your own thing. Also very accurate and American made.

Well ya went and done it!! Opened the proverbial can of opinion worms.
You are going to get many different answers and all are valid because each poster has found their choice to work the best for them.
Air guns are personal. Everybody has slightly different needs and wants. Read the advice carefully then go shoot the top few choices you like.
I wouldn’t stay stuck on FX. I am an FX shooter myself but know there are a lot of other guns that work better for other people.
The reasons I got on the FX train are simple. I like to tune and tinker and the Maverick and Impact lend themselves well to those of us who enjoy tuning and they are capable of very good power output. My Maverick is tuned and left alone. It is my main hunting gun.
My Maverick and Impact are very accurate. Took some tweaking to get them there but that is half the fun.

What you should get is up to you,do you ask who you should vote for?What I mean by that is you named some great air rifles and left some off your list.
What you need to do is STUDY! That way you will be better able to find what each air rifle has or does not have that you think is going to help you be Happy.
That was blunt,I mean no offense by it, just something I think Everyone one should do......then ask questions about the rifles You have narrowed down.
I give you this .25 would be better than .30, solid build and reliable service from a well-known good dealer that can get parts for you when You need them.

Take it for what its worth but Ive owned air rifles from .510 caliber down to .177 and makes from daystate alpha wolf to benjamin prod.

All of this is under the assumption you will be shooting 100 yards or less and in your own backyard where you have to be considerate of neighbors and property. These are all also opinions based on personal experience of my suggestions to follow...

FX impact - If you want to tinker and mod/customize to your hearts desire and shoot pellets fantastically with a large shot count this is the rifle for you, however I was not a fan of the tinkering with these nor was I fan of the feel, its like a tube with accessories to me, it does not feel like a rifle, it feels like a toy, even my slug gun weighing in at 15.8 pounds , felt like a toy. They will however shoot GREAT when setup right! Its also a great platform to build into a slug gun. Customer service is hit or miss, I never see all happy people when it comes to this.

Daystate - Shoot pellets great (some shoot slugs ok), good construction and feel. Very expensive for what they do IMO. Customer service , don't get me started, the guy who has my Alpha Wolf now even though he transferred the warranty is having nothing but problems and I too was less than impressed.

Taipan - Don't want to tinker? want a rifle that does the same thing time and time again? A rifle with arguably the best trigger in the business and feels like a real firearm in your hand? My .25 Long shot 33.95 JSB at 65 FPE MOA at 115 yards... my compact .22 took a life the other day at 77 yards! Quiet, powerful for their size, and built to last.

Benjamin - You can get some pretty high power versions of the mrods from @Airgun-Revisions and they are tried and true, Rich is great to deal with and the warranty is awesome, they also perform really well!

Airmaks - I have had two airmaks rifles and now have 1 (the caiman shorty) their construction, accuracy, and consistency impress me but most rifles from the eastern european section of the world are like that (agt, kalibr, taipan etc)

Airforce - Cant go wrong with simplicity here , if you are ok with single shot loading and want power , look to the airforce line , very basic, great starter rifles for someone who is ok with single shot loading and no regulator (will need to really study your chrono numbers to know shot count and placement) and great customer service and built right here in the USA.

Anyways this is the best response I can give based on the time I have right now

As others mentioned, RAW and the AAA rifles are two brands to definitely look at!! They are on my list to shoot or buy, especially the Evol.

Thank you all for your replies. I realize all of these rifles are more accurate than I am as a shooter. I want something that I am not going to outgrow as I advance in my hobby.

The RTI Prophet 2 Performance in .25 certainly looks like something that I would like. How easy are they to find in stock? I am a pretty impatient person, and don't particularly want to wait a long time for the more exotic rifles.

So far I think the FX rifles are still leading my list, as I do want something I can tinker with, modify and accessorize over time.

I would like to add a big bore rifle to my arsenal as well eventually. The AirForce seems like the best bang for the buck there. I would like something capable of taking whitetail deer. However for now, I am more interested in a long range target/small game rifle.

Honestly, the only available gun that is tempting me (considering cost/performance/reliability and the fact that I own a Prophet MK1) is the RAW HM1000X .22. The Airmaks Arms Krait X can be interesting but it not on the market yet.
