This past weekend I saw my mother for the 1st time since this craziness began. She's in her early 80s and lives where my grandfather did in the past. He was quite the collector and as you go through boxes that had been squirreled away in the barn or shop, you never know what you might find.
Well I found this classic flashlight:
I ask and she was fine having me take it home. During the day I played with it a bit and figured I'd put some new batteries in it when I got home. Before I took out the old batteries from it I gave the lens ring a bit a twist and then flicked the switch on it. My jaw quite literally dropped as it ACTUALLY TURNED ON!
These batteries are certainly NOT original, but they were branded from a local drug store chain that's long been out of business. Yup, I needed to know when they went out of business... I googled it and it was
1997 when Fay's Drugs ceased operation! That makes these batteries probably OLDER than 23-years old!
I know these old bulbs aren't as bright as LEDs and D-cell batteries won't last too long when you actually use them, but I just thought this was SOOO cool and could not wait to share this story with someone. That's for the opportunity here!
These batteries look like they could be just come out of the package. But they have been inside this flashlight for well over two decades which has been in a box in BARN! Talk about being well sealed!
The flashlight on and standing proud with the 23+ year old Fay's batteries!
Update - I did some searches on this and it seems like its an "early" one made by GT Price. I unscrewed the end-cap and even found the red, white, and diffuser lenses!
