The ZAN Projectiles .22 ELR are now available !!!

How does less plenum pressure add to speed, I ask the question because one airranger I seen actually shoots faster under less pressure. It doesn't have a regulator so it is strictly bottle pressure making it function
His bottle is the plénum. So if the bottle is at 200bars, the pressure behind the projectile is at 200bars...
After on some PCP with plenum, the hammer setting still important (like FX system for example)

So you need to get the old models, the new ones are a little shorter and fatter and the barrel interferes when screwing it down. If you aren't using a regulator, this helps "push" air. I gained 10-13 fpe on the airranger extreme. I went from the 480(metal) to like the 560 carbon, the the 720 carbon to the 1.1l carbon. Each time fpe went up. Having more air in board helps shoot more shots in the 3250psi zone. I use a external regulator when I tune, best accuracy using .25 griffin 57 grain large boa, 4mm ldc, round dimpled tip. So I get like 8 shoots in the range before filling. Distance is all about consistency, and we have to make due with what we have (I tried an regulator that you screw between the bottle and plenum and I could never get it to seal). This is how we go out to the feedlots.

Is there any interest for airgunner to go to the feedlots in elcentro? Collard dove (eruasians) and pigeons are always in season. You need a standard hunting license

Will it even fit in the DRS? And at 42.3 grains, bumping the speed up to 939 (as advertised) will probably get you 6 or 7 shots per 230 bar fill?. Looks like you’ll need to shoot a Panthera or Dynamic in 700mm to effectively use these slugs.
Yeah, but they shoot really well out of those platforms! Besides Scout? Not many out there yet will push 22 40-42@ 930!without heavy mods and tungsten ?Yeah I know billyjimjobob has a custom marauder that’ll do it😜 but on a serious note, they are a very good shooting,(submoa)high bc slug at a very respectable price! If?You do the work! Like anything else, the slug won’t do it for you! Give them a go, most of you won’t regret it!

Here are my results with the Zan ELR 42.3 grains slugs using a 600mm Fx Panthera. Shooting at 900fps with Regulator at 142

First 2 pictures at 50 yards. Last 2 pictures 100 yards.

My STD is 2.5 and my Spread is 10fps.

Why are airguns allowed to shoot larger calibers? If the competition calls for .22 caliber then everyone should be shooting .22 caliber. Giving airguns a handicap is stupid.

At our club we shoot a 60 silhouettes match. 15 @ 75 yards, 15 @ 100 yards, 15 @ 150 yards and 15 @ 200 yards. last match report is posted here. This is mostly a rimfire match however we do allow airguns as long as they shoot .22 caliber and same slug weight (40 Grans) . And we certainly do not allow .25 cal to compete in our .22 match. This would give the .25 cal a total unfair advantage. Only two or three of us shoot airguns, mostly FX Pantheras & Dynamics .22 700's. And now a new model Epic from the Czech Republic just joined in. This one has not competed yet but does show some promise for sure. Since we started competing with the Altaros 40 Gr slugs we generally win the match or certainly place with our airguns against rimfires because of the much better BC of the slugs (compared to rifmire projectiles) and much more constant energy output in the rifle air design than any rimfire match ammo.

The club will most likely create a separate category for airguns after this season because a number shooters have complained about the perceived "unfair" advantage airguns have against rimfire since the coming of Altaros slugs.

A couple initial observations which are made from personal experience off of a handful of matches only ..... (which may be off. & not repeatable) is that Airguns seem to have a strong advantage in lighter winds ... our track record shows this too as to who wins the match.. Yet, do not appear to have a significant advantage in stronger & variable winds. This may be due to other factors ... like our club rimfire shooters may be more experienced and may have better windcalls on those strong wind days.

Also noteworthy is that before airguns started shooting the sport with advanced design slugs, the club record was 59/60 animals. This record has now been broken 3 times by air gunners shooting the Altaros 40 grainers who shot 60/60. No rimfire shooter has ever broken 59.

Also noteworthy is that the Altaros 40 gr have done very well and placed multiple times in 50 yard and 100 yard benchrest matches against some great rimfire shooters, shooting top quality rifles and using match ammo, For example in this here match . This was not very common prior to more powerful & precise air rifles and more advanced slug designs.

I super excited at how accurate our air guns have become and the new slug designs that have allowed us to compete with match rimfire ammo. I am looking forward to trying these slugs to see how they compare to the Altaros 40 grainers.

@ Zan :
After I get my hands on some of your Zan 42.5 ELRs I will post some targets for sure. Please are you considering to make some 40 grainers 5.52 mm OD of these so I can compete with them? currently we could not use 42.5 Gr in our matches as they are heavier than 40 gr.

All the best with them and thank you for the innovation & pushing the envelope (y):)

Yikes!! I have never seen this for sure..... SD of 0 on 113 shoots! What kind of gun are you using Steve123? I need to get a gun & a tune that shoots like that !!
He's another guy. Was it Jim?? I met him in Texas once at the Textreme. He's the one that is getting that low SD. The first thing I thought of is the Garmin is malfunctioning but.........

The Garmin might have been malfunctioning ? The panthera keeps a 3-5 es most of the time thanks to the huma reg. Perfect storm ? too many numbers? I know it was keeping a 1-1.25 moa groupings at 100 , from shoulder and bipod no bag. If the weatherman is right , I'll check it at 300 on the long gong rack this weekend and run another string.

Yes, more than likely too many numbers for the Garmin to perform that function. What’s odd is that it doesn’t show the ES for that shot string. The best I’ve seen is this from my Panthera.

That's NICE !!! Polished washers ?
Actually, stock Panthera that I got when they first came to the USA. Stock AMP reg. Stock hammer, valve was replaced when the first one bent (known FX issue) and a heavier diameter valve stem was installed. 600mm Superior Heavy 1:18 (not Superior Slug 1:16) liner and .25 Altaros ATP Smooth 49.5 slugs (not weighed or sorted). This gun and setup have won the Long-Range Challenge in Oregon the past two years (I shot the gun in 2023, and Tony P @pesty3782 shot it in 2024).
