Thermal monocular recommendations?

Thanks guys for all the responses. As for my question on using NV with a red dot I wasn't thinking a NV scope I was thinking NV goggles.
As for thermal scopes I've never even looked through one to know what they are like or how they work. A lot of the spec's you guys talk about just go right over my head. That being said I will own a thermal scope one day. The question with buying one is do I by my first one on the inexpensive side and learn the workings of a thermal first? Then do a by once cry once purchase.

@lhandy I went the entry level route with a used AGM Asp Micro-160 that I purchased from another member. Had a warranty issue with it, sent it in, and was sent a new replacement unit. I still use it. It works for my purposes in close within 50 yards more or less. It really shined and earned its keep when I went beaver hunting using it in conjunction with a rifle mounted night vision scope. With the AGN Asp Micro-160 thermal monocular I could see rats, raccoons, and beavers. At a distance it’s tough to know what I was looking at. All I could see are shapes with heat signatures and movement. And the resolution is not good, especially if you try to zoom in on small critters. But if you want to know if something is there, it will show you a presence.
