Thermtec Vidar 650L Thermal Scope - First Action

A very long story, but I'll try and make a shorter summation. I tried to purchase a Hikmicro Alpex 4k LRF from this UK establishment and they took my money and then I filled out the )(#*$)(* paperwork to receive an NV/thermal device to have them receive the documentation - snail mail only - and then tell me Hikmicro forbids sales to the US! So now they have my money and I see that they sell Thermtec - a thermal scope that also is not sold in the US that I have looked at for a while as well as the Hikmicro. So I ask if they have any certain models coming in that are not on the website and can they sell them to me. They answered by saying they have a couple of "demo" units coming in at a large discount. Unfortunately, I'm a sucker for any "large discount" - which I think comes with age LOL - so I asked the model and they said the Thermtec Vidar 650 L. It is a 640k unit with a sub 25 netd and the best part of it is the "auto LRF" which will auto"magically" auto range with your BC profile to the hottest signal you are focused on with the scope. Well that aspect of the scope had me really intrigued as I have owned and used many of the current offerings on the market now and they all require some "hands on" to range and set the range before firing the weapon. This did it all for me. Here is the video of the first kill. It took me a couple of hours to get it sighted in the other day, but it was more to me figuring out how it all worked and they applying the "lessons learned" technique to my sighting in at the range. I will say that a 640k scope is a helluva lot easier than a 384k scope! Once I got it to where I was happy, this was the first night I had to take it for a real spin. Below is the gun with the scope attached. It's a @zx10wall tuned Uragen .25 using 30g H&N Baracudas. I have to say that so far the scope has really impressed me. The real test will be slaughtering many rats on a night outing!

Yes, I went out this morning with the dog and we found it. The grass was thicker in that area and the rabbit was laying flat on it's side - that's why I didn't pick it up when scanning for it last night.

The crosshairs changing color when the target is in focus indicates it is ranged correctly for the BC of the loaded profile. It only has five profiles, but I rarely change a scope like this to over 5 guns, so that wasn't a big deal to me.

@Csbrown5 As I said I got the scope as a "Demo" unit so I paid around half of the regular cost which is around $3.5k. Their top of the line with the dual 20/60 lens is about $4K new. I would have loved to have gotten that one as it goes from wide view at close range (20mm lens) to great detail at longer range (60mm). They seem to be a lot of scope for the money compared to others.

@Hal4son - Well I actually have the Alpex 4k LRF incoming now... Where there's a will (and money) there's a way! I will let everyone know how I like the Alpex once it arrives. The 2.5 - 20 power range plus the 1024x768 viewfinder is what really got me going on the unit. The Zulus 5-20 is just tuff on the sub 25 yard shooting. The new Zulus 3-12 does look promising for that range. I want to use the Thermtec for hogs and coyotes!

It looks a lot like the Nvision reticle. It changes color based on the background at the aimpoint. When you're over grey/black background the reticle is white. When you're over white hot, it changes to a black reticle.

What is the magnification and FOV on this unit?

Seriously a badazzz looking rifle/scope combo you have sitting there.
