Things that some don’t see when shooting slugs out of a pellet barrel

Hi,

I've not shot slugs in my airgun. I do shoot many cast bullets in my powder guns. Aside for the bullets fitting the bore in the powder guns, the next most important was lube. For my powder guns running less than 1800 fps, nothing has come close to Lee Tumble Lube. I'd seriously consider cutting Lee Tumble Lube with some mineral spirits and tumbling some slugs in it and let them dry. Only a very light coating is necessary. I've some powder gun barrels with 40,000+ rounds thru them and they shine. I've not cleaned them in 18 years.

Next most interesting thing I found with Lee Tumble lube is shooting cleans the lead from lead fouled barrels. Nope. I don't know why. Richard Lee experienced the same thing when he first starting using the stuff.

All here have more experience than myself with airguns. Just my experience with powder guns.

Enjoy,

Nugria

The point of this topic is just to be aware of what’s going on inside your pellet gun when pushing slugs through it. If you are experiencing issues, take a peek at the barrel. A good peek. This topic alone has probably sold 300 bore scopes. Yes, that’s how gullible we are, but it’s not always a bad thing. I am not sponsored by a bore scope company even though I might wish I was. The gun in question might have underlying issues that cause a buildup of lead. The size of the slug, speed or lube might not matter. Will this effect accuracy? On this particular gun with this particular slug, no. Most of you would pay me $200 more than the guns worth if you saw how well it shoots this particular slug. As of right now, we can’t paint anything slug related to airguns with a broad brush. We still have a lot to learn.
