Had a member here who goes by Josenevarez just take me for $800. They answered my WTB add for a Sniper XR. Worked out a deal for $800. Over the last few days have been asking for a tracking number with the response of " don't worry I'm on it". This morning I asked if he could not provide me with a tracking by 6pm to refund my funds to my PP account. Of course crickets!!! And phone not accepting phone calls!!!!! Please beware of this member. He uses "sir" a lot when communicating...

MOD EDIT: MOVED TO MEMBER FEEDBACK SECTION

Wow, I thought that PayPal was supposed to prevent this type of crap !?

I've bought a few things using both personal checks and Postal Money Orders. All four with excellent communication and outcome. I told the sellers to hold the item untill the check cleared the bank. One guy sent the item right away.

I guess I've been lucky. I refuse to join a place that I have to...pay to...pay ! And now I see what Ed is going through, makes no sense...

This is a huge red flag.. New member with small amount of post- always have to watch for this

I really hope you can talk to PayPal or your bank/cc to get your money back.

How did a new member with only 6 posts access the classified section when it requires 10 posts?

I've voiced my opinion many times that new members should need 100 posts to access the classified section and if they spam their way to 100 post they never get access.

I can't imagine why Michael would allow new members access so early when it makes scammers jobs so easy. It's no chore for admins since they would only need to look at the new member's posts 1 time when the new member reaches 100.

So much scum out there, sorry about the loss. I used to risk shipping with no insurance and I’ve used PayPal with the friends and family application to avoid the fee. But never again. I just sold a Crown for $1350 and the fee was about $51, if anything goes wrong I’m covered. And I insured it for $1000 worth of coverage for $16. So for $67 all is covered.
l also photographed the rifle both sides, as well as the packing job incase I need to prove anything. I’d just figure that cost into my asking price, PayPal has to make money too. I sure hope it works out for you, that guy is garbage.

I am sorry this happened to you. I have had it happen to me, but I always use PP G&S to purchase anything on forums or classifieds. I have passed on some great deals that I really wanted because the seller said they had problems with PP and only use direct pay services like CashApp etc. I am sure there are legit reasons why people don’t want or can’t use PP for transactions, but that’s for someone else to find out.

I think there are also other escrow type services where you both register and the money is verified, the product is sent, and no payment happens until the delivery is verified.

20/20 hindsight I guess… I really hope you get your money back or your gun delivered as promised.

Thanks guys! I did use services and not FF. I'll be contacting PP today and will let you guys know how this turns out. I noticed that he only had a few posts and should have trusted my gut. But nooooo, had to have it..... Just wanted to let everyone know to be careful. I do agree that people should have a few posts before they could access the classifieds.

Ed24,

We're sorry to hear of this unfortunate news. We strongly suggest that anyone using the Classified section do their due diligence before considering any transactions, especially WTB ads. We've provided this permanently pinned topic to help you out https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/tips-tricks-reporting-scammers-ad-status-why-cant-i-reply-to-ads/?view=all&referrer=1

Tips, Tricks and Warnings

Most scammers operate via DM (Direct Message) only. But some of them are getting brave and posting publicly. Here are a few tips that may help you avoid them:

  • Visit the buyer/seller Profile to view the number of public posts they've made. Review their posts to determine whether their content is legitimate or just fluff.
  • View their Accuracy score. If they've been a helpful part of the community they will likely have a few (+) scores.
  • Search the Known Scammers List.
  • Search the Member Feedback section for their username. If the buyer/seller has not yet established a reputation on AGN, then we suggest you cautiously consider alternative sources such as: other forums, Amazon, Ebay, etc.
  • Ask the seller to provide a picture of themselves with the item they have for sale and a handwritten note that says "For Sale on AGN with the date". Be cautious as they can also read this and have been photoshopping these notes onto other sellers pictures.
  • Talk to the buyer/seller on the phone.  If the buyer/seller only wishes to deal via email, refuses to provide personal information, refuses to talk on the phone, refuses to share unique pictures, etc. then you should heed the signs.

Should you run into any questionable characters, please notify a Moderator/Administrator immediately. We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner. Do NOT start a topic in the Classified section warning others! You may start a topic in the Member Feedback section, and then "Flag" it for the Moderators to see.

At this time members only need 10 posts to use the Classified section, 5 posts to use the DM system. Replies like this should constitute concern

Right off the bat I see several big red flags for this seller: brand new member, no feedback, no accuracy score, and his number appears in the known scammers list ‪+1 (252) 699‑0287‬. Beware - They are getting crafty by photoshopping personalized notes into fake pictures! We are working on adding additional member vetting processes, but we need our members to do their part by scrutinizing anyone replying to WTB ads, and reporting questionable members to @moderator @airgun-nation @michael right away.
