Thinking of a HW100

I was thinking about a HW100 for silhouette practice. They have a bunch of options, but I think the laminate adjustable stock looks like a good fit. I was sticking with 177 caliber.

I'll adjust it down to 800fps or so to increase shot count, and save wear and tear on the targets.

I guess the big decision now is carbine or longer barrel.

I like the higher shot count with the bigger cylinder, but the rifle looks pretty long. Carbine looks a bit short, and I have a desire for high shot count. I have a big SCBA bottle, and a bauer compressor, so I refills are unlimited, but I still have a stigma for high shot count.

So now I am leaning to the carbine, but I am not sure. What do you guys think?

Can't go wrong with an HW100! One of the most under rated platforms.

Agree with Lewis.

I have the Bullpup version of the HW100 (long version). VERY solid design. The basic gun, the receiver machining part to part fit-up are second to none, as they say. A touch on the heavy side, but this might actually help with the silhouette shooting.

As said, I don't think there's any way that you can go wrong.

I recently bought an HW100S carbine sporter stock.177 from AOA and it may be my favorite of all the rifles I've owned. Out of the box it was shooting over 19ftlbs, but one of our club members tuned it for me to around 16.5; it's now shooting 10.34's at 850fps, and getting around 65 shots per fill. While pellet testing off sticks on a calm morning last weekend I was shooting 3/4" CTC groups at 50 yards.

It's a great looking rifle, quiet, well balanced, accurate and mechanically robust. Nice, crisp trigger that needed no adjustment at all. I added an adjustable butt pad which made the fit perfect for me. The walnut sporter stock comb height is perfect for medium rings, and the rifle balances beautifully. Cant recommend it highly enough.

I’m at the same juncture, can’t decide between the Laminate Carbine or the Full length. I don’t always trust pictures as they can be deceiving or even warped on a webpage. Anyone with the full length version care to chime in?

I’ve heard that the US versions both have the same air tube (true?) if so does the longer barrel improve the efficiency a lot?

The longer barrel will not improve efficiency, assuming each rifle is well tuned. It should give a bit more power potential, so its most efficient tune will probably be at a higher fpe compared to the carbine. I can't answer regarding the size of the air cylinders. However, the number of shots indicated on the Weihrach site suggests they are the same.

We have several carbines and full length HW's among club members, and I spoke to most of them when I was trying to decide between the two rifles. The bottom line is that the full length does develop a bit more power at the same air consumption but for me there was not enough difference to outweigh the negatives. The quicker locktime and better balance of the FAC carbine won me over over. I'm getting 65 shots per fill at 16.5 foot pounds, and the accuracy is outstanding. (JSB 10.34)

FYI, while window shopping some of the UK sites I noticed that the newer HW100s have the updated style stock. Here is a pic of the laminate.

I have the " Standard " version in .177, Walnut Stock. Absolutely one of my favorite guns.
It was WAY too hot out of the box, spent some time tweaking, massaging the gun down to 850-ish using the 10.34"s , getting 5 + mags from 200bar down to 125-ish .
The gun is a straight up laser, and stupid quite, again i will say it, one of my favorite guns .
If/when you can get one , you will not regrett the purchase as many have said before me....
