Skout This Will Do Nicely

The two week deep freeze has subsided and today the winds unexpectedly calmed late in the day so I got out to get back on the Evo .22.

Very happy with the way this gun shoots the JTS 22.07’s

Shot at 50 yd and before packing it in, the winds died to nothing so tried a group at 100 yd. For pellets at this distance……Yep, this’ll do.
Bit of reg creep though…speeds gradually increase by about 10 fps over the course of a magazine or two. I‘ll have to troubleshoot that.

Beautiful groups! What was your Dwell set to? I'd guess maybe 23?

I agree with Manabeknives... I would bump the LPR up from 170 and see what it does. I say this based on a phone conversation with Bill Gardner. For both the JTS 22.07 and the 36 gr Corbin 0.219 slugs he was very specific that the LPR should be "greater than 180, but less than 200, with 190 being best". He even said after adjusting the HPR to get the velocity you want within the sweet spot (22.07 gr sweet spot is 960 to 985 fps / Corbin slugs sweet spot is 895 to 935 fps), set the LPR back to 190 if it moved.

Even if the groups open up after adjusting the LPR up to around 190, you should be able to close them back up with Dwell testing groups. He was pretty adamant about the LPR setting/range and then using 5-shot groups at different Dwell setting as the final tuning for your tightest groups at a given velocity. His method of tuning is beautifully simple, and it just works.

Dwell is currently at 26. After testing groups at 50 and thinking that 22 ms would be the magic number, it turned out to be 26.

Yes I’m aware of the 180-190 for setting for the low reg; however, at the lower HP setting, I am unable for get up that high.
I basically reach the end of travel for the adjustment cap on the LP reg before hitting the 180-190 magic number.

I spoke with Keith in SKOUT Service and he said that In reality if you are within a minimum of 10% of the HP side, you’re good to go.
At a glance, the ES readings are around 6 fps, maybe less, and I don't think I can improve on groups at 50. They’re there!

Keith did send me a stronger spring and a few extra shims to get numbers up on the LP side but I’ll hold off on tearing into the LP reg for now.

The LP @ 170 makes sense then for that given tune. You can only turn it up as high as it'll go, and you sure can't be dissatisfied with that tune's results! I'm not sure that I would mess with the regulator right now either. Great job tuning and shooting!

Just wanted to mention, I can easily attain 180-190 when shooting at 1800 on the HP. I have a .25 slug barrel that I switch to now and again and slugs want higher velocity

That makes sense... when I talked to Bill, he said to "set the LPR to at least 1500" to set up for the JTS 22.07 gr pellets. Probably the threshold for achieving his recommended "greater than 180, but less than 200, with 190 being best" is around 1500, give or take a little for different gun/regulator variability. No two guns are exactly the same.

Good info. I’ve been shooting .22 pellets lately from my EVO. HP at 92 bar, LP 150 psi, Dwell 23 which gets me about 960-965 fps with the AEA 21.9 or JTS 22.07 (they are the same pellet). The BC averaged right about 0.060GA.

I shot today a couple hundred shots mostly 100 to 115 yards. Only shot one EBR card for a 225. The tune seems really good and the gun feels and sounds good at that tune. I am shooting an FX 700mm STX liner 1:20 twist that I had lying around from a Maverick I had quite a while ago.

I want to try shooting some N50 cards with this setup, I think it’ll do quite well. Also could be a very good EFT gun. I currently have the Athlon Ares ETR 3-18x scope on it.

Mike,

I’m intrigued by the low HP for the same velocity with the FX 700 mm or 28” equivalent you’re getting. Wow.
I probably mentioned I get 965-970 at just under 1500 psi Hp and 160 or so on LP with the 25” LW polygonal. I get the same results at 990 as well. Maybe better? Needs more testing.
I would like to see some targets if you get the chance.
I’m very impressed with the 22.07’s and the LW polygonal. The weather has not been too good for the past 3 weeks but I window of calm and shot an N50 At sunset. Hey grab it while you can. Shot a 228 w 3X’s. Not great but not bad for only the second N50 target in 3 years.
I’m trying to ease back into competitive shooting after having taken a few years off.
I really need to familiarize myself with this new Evo as weather permits before I can begin to figure things out. Best of luck on your end.
