On your first pressing...just cycle the press until you feel solid resistance...but stop before you eject lead. This will fully form the slug but leave it a little big so you can flow the lead to fill out the final press. Tumble in between.

Thanks. I have been trying things like that. I have found that some of my rifles do not like to feed boat tail slugs from the magazine but shoot they extremely well. What i do is form the slug using the dish base die to start, then use the boat tail die. This leaves a small indentation in the base of the slug. This helps with feeding from a magazine tremendously. My Air Arms won't feed my boat tail slugs unless I do this. Also with my Epic 2 I would have to move the mag to get it to feed but not if I make the slugs this way.

You bring up a good point. Since I don't have any magazine fed guns...I have never tested any slug in that way. I'm pretty sure these will not work well in any capacity but careful single loading.

If anyone is looking to use these in a magazine...I would not recommend them.

They might work. The Altros will feed great out of my Epic but thr slugs i make won't unless I make the dimple in them.

They are cleaned in acetone and vacuum packed. There is no lube on them.

You will have to try and see what works best for you.

Wow. I just tumbled some of my .357 135gr slugs. They were all clean when they went in. This is what they looked like after.

Yes, that demonstrates the latent issue of detachment at the shoulder where the air escaped. Once you repress them you can tumble them again and you will not see anything....but of course those slugs will be all rounded over.

For me...3-5 minutes is enough.

Mike, Weren't your 38g slugs a round nose similar in shape to the Altoros slugs? Did you evolve to using a 40g truncated cone flat nose / boat tail for better BC and accuracy? Will you also be making the 38's available for sale too? Great idea vacuum packing the slugs to prevent jostling in transit.

I have 38gr for sale too.

These are my original slugs that I always return to after frustrating myself with other designs. Their BC is lower than my rounded nose slugs by about 20% or so...but the accuracy is consistently better.

Do you still have to shoot them backwards? Like the early Thomas slug guns did. I was amazed that they didn't shoot very good in the normal point first. If so, would other air rifles need to shoot them base first?
