Crosman Thought id share my 1966 Powermaster 760

Found a grail (for me) a while back in original condition.

Always liked the old powermaster's. Have a couple, but this is the earliest model Ive seen.

116 stamp is what I believe to be Nov 1966.

As far as I know, what sets the earliest models apart are the square tang and tear drop bolt handle.

Went through and cleaned it up and a full re-seal. Just a joy to hold and shoot, something special about the old airguns.

I have alot of fun fixing up the old stuff. Kinda therapeutic. Just thought id share with you guys.

Very nice! The 760 really is an American classic. Everyone I knew as a kid in the early 70s had them and they are good shooters and were affordable. That version you have with the nice wood is a beauty!

That's the second nicest example of that rifle that I've ever seen. The first was on Christmas of '67 when my older brother got a new one.

What groups is your vintage 760 shooting? I have a wood & metal vintage 2x7 scoped 761XL with a rifled barrel and got like 1" group at 10 yards with the copper colored Barracuda pellets the other day. I need to do more pellet testing but was expecting more than BB like accuracy with any pellet. Maybe I need to try some 4.54 diameter pellets. Anybody with a 760 with rifled barrel please chime in on the accuracy you are getting.

In my experience, the rifled barrels aren't much more accurate with pellets and are maybe a little less accurate with BBs than the smooth-bores are. Start a new thread and I'll add some photos.

Nice wood, and I definitely agree with the therapeutic part.

Mine was originally my Grandpa's. I remember shooting it in his backyard (late 60's early 70's) and when he would let me and my cousin shoot pellets instead of bb's, it felt like we were shooting "bullets" ;-)..... it still has the original round sales sticker on it, and for some reason I won't take it off now.

Cool gun I’m glad you found one. My dad had one from the early to mid 70’s I think. It had plastic stocks instead of wood and all metal. Dad threw it out when it quit holding air.

Re-sealed another, in original condition.

This is the 2nd variant (Jan 1970) with the squared off bolt handle and rounded stock tang.

That was a rugged gun and not a toy. I liked that they could shoot bb's or pellets. They were pretty accurate and hit hard.

Great gun!

The big brother was a crosman 140. Serious stuff. The older (HS) kids owned those.

me and my neighbor friend both got the wood 760's for Christmas one year...cant remember when it was,
many years ago. we used bb's and we were good at it too !!!
but i do remember hunting dove, quail, rabbits and squirrel with them until we got old enough to
hunt with PB's. mine was stolen years ago when a MF broke into my house while i was away working.

I have two with the plastic furniture. One is my brother’s old gun from the 70’s and the other came from a friend. Both were rebuilt and for some reason my brother’s won’t shoot pellets, can’t figure out why. An American classic absolutely.

There are a couple of Gamo pellets that my (three) guns won't chamber. They hang up when you try to close the bolt. I don't know why. Other pellets work just fine.

Here's a pic of my younger brother's 760. It's a mix and match of standard and XL parts. I remember refinishing the wood and making the bolt knob back in '82.
