I'm considering running a virtual air pistol winter competition, much like Chas is doing over at the Field Target section.

I'd like to see what kind of response I get from here, to see if the response from you pistol enthusiasts would warrant the effort. No prizes, honor system, all types of pistols will be considered. 10 meters, targets will be appropriate to the class. Between 40 and 60 shots, depending upon the class. Targets will be determined by class. Field Target, ISSF/NRA division, sport division, some divisions will have different sight categories. Targets will be submitted once a week, day to be determined. 

These are just some of the rules and divisions I've come up with, any other suggestions or ideas welcome.

100 percent behind the idea....

I would suggest basing it similar to the one used in England called MPL. This is to say Muscle power league. 

It means that any pistol requiring muscle power to load it can enter. It basically rules out Pre Charge which gives too much of an unfair advantage.

Pump ups which are allowed, seem to have no advantage, SSP is allowed but again does not out compete a more powerful springer, anymore than they out compete them. Pretty much a level playing field based on their own merits and disadvantages. I have seen anything from std pistol targets to 1” inch circles on pieces of card for these events. Think...not everyone may have access to a rat reset knockdown, or exactly the same target card common to everyone...so the 1 inch circle works quite well and can be had by simply drawing round a beer bottle top. Ranges vary between 6 and 15 yards max.

There is an alternative event for Pre Charge and Pre charge target pistols but interest is low. I suspect it is due to these shooters more interested in official card lane events at clubs.

I like the idea. Heck it may even get me to clean my basement and set up an indoor range down there. No way I can shoot outdoors every week as we have had the most horrible weather this winter. Between the snow, ice and rain my outdoor range is a frozen muddy sloppy near impossible to navigate mess. I have a P17 and a 1701P so I'm good either way.

Online competitions are great fun. I suggest that targets get submitted every other week. That works better for those of us who travel quite a bit. 

Up until recently, there was a site hosted by an individual for silhouettes. The target provided was for 5m pistol and 10 m rifle. He set a 20 minute time limit to be shot in one session. One entered their scores on line and the host (I forget his name) would post results online.

Another suggestion is to have a 5m competition (at least for pistols). I'm pretty selfish and that's the limit that I can shoot in my garage. But that would also assist those folks that are snowbound these days.

As of now, I will have a bunch of different classes, no matter what you shoot, there will be something for everyone. All types of pistols, regardless of powerplant, will be able to shoot SOMETHING from my list of offerings. I'll put out a list of classes and rules within the next few days. There will be a 10 meter class, and for those of you who don't have 10 meters, I will do a 5 meter as well. I'll probably have 3-4 classes, with 2 or 3 divisions within those classes. There will literally be something for everyone. 

The targets I'm looking at using are the NRA B-40 air pistol target, and the AR 5 air rifle target. 

This will be done once a week, scores will be reset every week, so you can compare with other people in that same class. Scores will not be cumulative, so if someone misses a week, it's not a big deal. I'll post a list at the end of the competition of those with the highest score in their class.

Stay tuned for complete rules and dates, I will have them up in a few days.

I shot IHMSA in the 80's, great fun.

There will be a class for EVERYONE, some classes might be combined with others, reasonably, just so I don't have 150 classes, divisions, or subdivisions. NO ONE will be told you cannot shoot. Whatever class I create at 10 meters, will be available at 5 meters as well. I'm even going to have a class for guys that have shoulder stocks, like the Crosman platform. 

Leo, the "formal", and I'll use that loosely, 10 meter ISSF air pistol will be 60 shots, this way, everyone can compare their scores to a standard match regimen of 60 shots. It'll be up to the individual to how many shots you'd like to take on a target, as long as it can be scored properly, and is legible.

Thats the exact target we are going to use for the ISSF class.

I will be using primarily the rifle target that Chas is using for the other classes., being that it will be shot at 5 yards, and some classes at 10 yards. Rules are being worked on, and I will have Michael W pin it at the top of this page, so everyone can refer to it, without searching for it.
