The fox squirrels around here are twice the size of the grays. Mostly fox around here but if I go 2hours east back home the grays have taken over.

You are in Texas, I'm in Tennessee, I think the fox squirrels around here are of the Eastern subspecies.@SteveV The way it looks pictured is how I’m used to seeing fox squirrels in these parts. Now I do occasionally come across some smaller gray squirrels that I wonder if they are hybrids. I’ve seen a tree where I thought that both species denned together so it’s possible. To answer your question accurately I think it’s best to say that I don’t know for sure.
