Tips before Ordering a Custom Stock LTD.

When ordering a stock the options are limited to model of stock, rifle model, right or left hand, adjustable butt pad, rosewood pistol grip cap, stippling or checking. Initially, there is no option for wood upgrades. Later, I discovered that you can add a note in the “customer notes” box indicating you would like to add the “Select Wood Option “. They will then cut your stock out special from the heart of the Walnut blank. This gets into the harder Walnut with a tighter figure. They will then send you an email for “request for payment” for the option. It costs about an extra $50 each. I don’t think they want this “select option” well known. In the first picture CSLTD is showing what to expect WITHOUT using the “select wood” option. The second picture shows how to order in the “customer notes” using the SW option. The last pictures are stocks I received with the SW option.

CSLTD just had a increase. The CS 500 which is what mine are, are the entry level model. Still with every option available (mine) and the “select wood” option they will now cost around $525-$550 with shipping. About 4-5 weeks out. The Tyrolean and Thumbhole stocks are more. This is really a good deal in a custom stock of this quality. It doesn’t make a gun shoot better (except for the personal fit) but it does make them a conversation piece. I’ve wanted to do this for decades. I’m done with “how many” and on to “how nice”.

I used to go to Cali'Co up past Santa Rosa, one of the biggest stock blank suppliers around.

Thing people should know about wood ...it needs to be a aged, and some of it is kept under wraps with water running on it.....not days,.not months but years....Think good wine ,

The reason for the slow seasoning is cracks, dried too fast the walnut and other woods crack because the water evaporates too fast...

I good stock of Walnut used to cost $200 for a blank 20 years ago....now much harder to get.

$500 for a finished gun stock is great and it will not be with choice grain....

One doesn't spend that kind of money on a rifle they do not intend to keep.

People have no problem spending that kind of money on a scope...well some people.

I have decided to not buy anymore air guns, finger crossed,I will custom stock my keepers...

That my fellow air gunners is why some springers are forever....gots to keep them as you got more money in them than they first cost you. ....uh they are such fine friends to me.

Time to get relative. We are talking about a true piece of master craftsmanship. For a right hand stock under $400 shipped from UK. Most of our friends spend that much eating restaurant food in a week. That is just not the same $400 of 20, 10, heck 2 years ago. My wife and I both would rather spend our extra money on things that last and buy prime steak and eat at home. Different strokes.

I’m UK based, lost count of the number of stocks I’ve had from them..

the “select blank” option costs me £40 UK extra and is as you say just add a side note on your order, been a while since I ordered one.

they used to jump from the 500 to the 700, the 600 was the Tyro stock and not commonly advertised you also had to ask for this option as was the Schnabel tip, not sure if these are up on their webpage now, they also do a few stocks that are not advertised and you also have to ask separately.

they are very accommodating and if you want small changes then they can usually be discussed, as in no chequering or stippling, bigger forend belly to accommodate the more target orientated shooters, bit like their 1000 stock but added to the other variants etc.

I pay £400/£500 for bespoke wood/laminate stocks so these factory CS ones are slightly cheaper until you start adding all the upgrades.

Also they have started using the cheaper looking Bisley Adjustable Butt Pads, they are a bit rubbish compared to the all black Wegu style adjustable pads they used to use… mention this on your next order maybe, Bisley Pads around £15/£20 UK prices separately… Wegu style pads around £35/£40 separately, I haven’t noticed if this option has decreased in price on their webpage when you upgrade to an adjustable pad, but I would like to think they are using cheaper options so should charge you less for the said option.?

Mr Paul at CS said that they cannot get black Wegu pads at this time. All the craziness going on I guess. So this Bisley pad is the only option right now. I actually like this Bisley pad better anyway. The Schnabel fore end is available still. Again by adding it as an optional side note. I talked with Paul about this and the option was about $35. See pic. I wasn’t sure I would like it in the long run so opted not to do it. Maybe someday on a Tyrolean CS600. In the world of custom stock makers these CS stocks are very affordable. Their craftsmanship, options, customer service and shipping times are second to none.
