Today is different for me but hugely entertaining. I took six of my guns with iron sights out for a gentle comparison. What a hoot. First up HW30 .20. I had a target set up 10 meters away for a reason.
IMG_5957.jpeg
Just got this baby, no scope yet. I was able to get excellent groups, but found it difficult to see sights. This next rifle is my garbage find. FWB 300
IMG_5958.jpeg
Haven’t shot it much. Stop the clock. Should have my mind examined, what a gun. Five quick shots.
Where did these go? And why?
Get them back.
IMG_5959.jpeg
I really like these peep sights. Way easier to focus. This puppy is going to see a little more light. Nothing short of amazing. Talk about set the stage.
‘Next is another new gun a HW50 .20. maybe 10 rounds through it.
IMG_5960.jpeg
Once sighted in it held its own. Again I had trouble focusing but doable. This one will be joined at the hip one day, sweet guns.
‘This is my last score. I was looking at 3 rifles, I meant to grab the 350 mag. but I grabbed a D460 .22 by mistake.
IMG_5961.jpeg
This gun kicks like a mule, but accurate. I have it in .177 as well. I find the plastic sights a turn-off, but effective. This next rifle is the same gun with a different skin. K98 .22. I found out that were the same 2 days after first shooting it.
IMG_5962.jpeg
Man these rifles hit hard. Not used to it. One big difference is the sights. I like the 98 hands down on right.
IMG_5965.jpeg

Comparing these two rifles to me doesn’t make sense. I think the 98 has way more metal cast parts vs. the 460 which a strong seller in their line up.
This next rifle is the FWB 124 Sport.
IMG_5968.jpeg
This was the second easiest to aim. No wonder. This gun needs peep sights.
I think with a little time that 300 would never miss. My favorite today. The sport was second but was in the outfield compared to the 300.
I’m going to be on the prowl for these sights for a few other guns.
Impressed on sighting the target with these!
Which sights do you recommend for me to hunt for? Old or new?

Kind of hard to talk after that lineup!
I dreamt about an FWB once. Lol
For shooting I like peeps, if I had my choice I would prefer an adjustable iris. I drilled and tapped my trigger guard, to hold two iris's, so I have three sizes with the gun, but one adjustable iris would be the cats meow.
Also i prefer a hooded post sight, because sunlight from differnt angles influeces your point of aim. If the sun shines on the right side of your post you'll shoot right and vice-versa. A hooded post will shoot straight.
Beautiful collection!
I was just looking at that peep on the FWB and that is a peep sight is like one I've never seen before. I've only shot Williams other than M1's etc.

I like the FWB300. What beautiful rifles. Why do you call it your “garbage find” rifle?
Kenny
I chased that rifle for 6 months. The story goes it came out of a dumpster. It’s got the marks to prove it. I figure it was in an estate and someone just threw it out. Crow

Thanks and Thanks for that hot tip on the sun lite, makes sense. Crow

Tried to find the thread and think it was at GTA , but if your 98 has this front sight a guy found a post kit that fit . He was wanting the lolly/ ball post .

As you see the post is removable and can be swapped out . I recall remove the setscrew and maybe unscrew the post ..

Anyway if you could find that thread he showed what was what and worked

FWB300 tyro is a gem in any condition. Shame someone would throw in dumpster. At least now with someone who appreciates it. Nice collection , nice shooting. Mike
I understand. I have two spoken for of mine. Can’t imagine what happens to the rest, when I’m gone. Crow
MDriskill going to be your guy to talk peeps. You found out what most of us have. Rear notch sight just no bueno with old eyes.
Old age is not for the weak. Constant battle. Crow

Thanks, I’ll try to find, not good at searches.
I found the sight as is was accurate at 10 meters. At 30 yds. it was a guess, couldn’t see front sight.
You can shoot the lites out with open sights. You would be a laser with peeps.

Nice pics of some nice rifles!

The Williams FP-AG is a good traditional choice for a sporting aperture sight. Its adjustable mounting base will fit any of these dovetails. This is a not truly a match sight, but a lightweight, small peep intended to leave you with a good view of the target area. And still a huge step up from breech-mounted notch sights.

For a more precise match diopter sight as on your lovely FWB 300S Tyro, HW's and Dianas will take any sight made for the standard-ish 11 mm grooves. HW made their own diopter for years that will work (but old Diana match sights will NOT fit their modern rails...go figger). Personally I like old Anschutz sights.

On the FWB sport, I'm not sure what size its dovetail is; on older FWB's it's about 11 1/2 mm. You might see if the sight on your 300S will fit it, but BE CAREFUL doing that. Turn the clamp knob all the way out before taking the sight either on or off, and be sure it's aligned with the transverse grooves in the receiver before tightening it, or you will scratch the gun (The bolt nestles into one of these grooves to keep it from silding).

Old Williams sight on an HW (this is actually not an FP-AG, but looks nearly identical).

Classic HW diopter. These were made with both 13mm (older) and 11mm (newer) dovetails, be sure you get the latter.

Anschutz "Universal" sight on 11mm HW rails.

WOW FWB 300 with what looks like ambi Trolean stock ? to bad your a 3 day drive from me 😎
Traditional tyro designs usually have that shallow flat "cheekpiece" on the off side. Not really sure what the idea is, and it's not a true ambidextrous design obviously - but you can usually shoot 'em pretty comfortably wrong-handed, lol.

Thanks, when I bought my phone I was more interested in the camera.
I now know why the fascination for these sights. When I sighted it in, it held like a suction cup. Going to spend more time.
I appreciate your response, and great tips, gives me some thing to hunt down. Crow

I like that Tyrolean stock on the 300. Back in the 80's when I bought my 300, I wish I had sprung extra or that stock. I doubt that you will ever find another springer that accurate, they are beyond fantastic. I have thought of trying a scope on mine, but like the irons too well to try.
