To Lube Or Not To Lube

Just like rifles have their special and specific flavor of pellet the they like best, it's the same with lubing or not.
I've experienced both scenarios. One rifle liked it and did better. Another one didn't like it at all. Still another one, It didn't make any difference either way.
Best to try it and find out.
Here's how I do it....
Take the foam out of an old pellet tin. Work a small amount of your flavor of lube into the foam. You don't want it sopping/dripping, that's way too much. Just enough to coat the foams all the way through so that if you mash them up as small as you can, you're not dripping. Put them back in the tin. Add a layer of pellets leaving enough room for them to roll around. Finally, gently shake the tin back and forth or roll it to get the pellets moving around. Now all those pellets will have a thin film of lube.

I do lube..." Damn that just sounded wrong"!

I have several rifles, but the only one that prefers lubed pellets is my Steyer LG110 FT. It is more accurate with it's favorite pellet and does not need cleaning as often. I use Slick 50 One Lube. I just spray a single burst into a zip plastic bag and pour in the pellets. Let the air out and mush the pellets artound gently to avoid any deforming. Then back into a tin marked lubed.

I used to wash them prio,r and still do, if the thought hits me. However I have done some in a hurry before a match and they shot fine.

Most everyone on the field target circuit I know, that has a Steyer, lubes. I don't know if this is because of the barrelsSteyer uses or what. My gun does not have a Steyer barrel it is an Anschutz barrel. It too prefers the lubed pellets for accuracy.

Well I have been using lube now for almost a month now. I don't have a chrony but I can say that there is something that my gun likes about it. Probably all the oil that I get on the outside of the rifle. Finger prints everywhere. It does seem to help a bit with some sound and some not so perfect pellets. It seems to create a little better seal. I like the thought that the barrel gets a little lubrication with each shot. It could be just my imagination.
