Tuning To much hammer spring / to little reg / efficiency in the toilet (?)

Readers digest:

I've a little .177 HW100 ( this exact one specifically - that's where I bought it ) that I have de-tuned down to 8 ft/lbs for shooting inside of barns. I've got the reg turned down to 80 bar. ( I purchased a reg gauge to do that via HW100tuning over in the UK ) The thing is a laser, if not kind of heavy, and is stupidly quiet and seems to "sip" air as with the super low power setup that I'm running with it right now - I'm getting lots of shots per the little 200bar max fill pressure. :)

There's going to be a local field target season this coming spring / summer!! First match is in May. Whoohoooo!

I was using my old .177 m-rod for FT but as there were no matches at all last year - I slapped a Tim Hill Valve in it and did some other stuff - weaponized it - and now have it slinging 12.5g NSA slugs at around 970 fps and it too is a (vicious - lol) laser and has taken out pigeons around the farms at 60 & 70 yards like nobody's business. At 25-26 ft/lbs it's now to hot for FT use and I ain't changing it.

It's a wet rainy day today so . . . . what to do? See if I can be lazy and tune the HW100 back up to 880'ish for FT use *without* diddling with the reg. NOT. Best I could get out of it with the reg where its at is low 700's - just under 12 ft/lbs. This was acheived purely by turning the hammer spring in - at one point I had it turned in to much and the spring got bound - it wouldn't cock and I had to back it off. Initially I was kind of "giddy" at the "sub-12" limitation (lol) - I figure that if our brothers and sisters over in Europe can shoot FT at that power level than so can't Jimmy! I only do the local monthly FT meets purely for fun - something to do - meet and hang out with fellow air gunners - shoot the breeze - learn stuff from the older guys who've been shooting for a thousand years, etc . . . I'm not "serious" about it. I *am* competitive though mind you - I'm there for fun BUT - I also want to do well and do what I can to hold my own against the competition.

So back to the subject. "Fuel efficiency" went in the toilet on the gun with the reg @80bar and the HS turned in as far as it would let me. Does that jive? *If* I want to use this gun for FT - am I going to have to dial the reg back up to 90 or 100bar to keep the HS backed off AND still maintain half decent efficiency? I'm guessing so.

So now I'm thinking that I "need" a good / accurate / not to expensive .177 in the 17-19 ft/lb range that I can dedicate to FT. Anyone got one they want to sell me? ( 😁 lol )

I'm going to "submit" this post and then wander into the classifieds . . .
