Took the 2240 and HW44 out today...

Weather was perfect for me and for shooting cool and overcast with only a slight breeze blowing. Managed to get hold of some JSB Jumbo RS 13.4 pellets so wanted to give them a try out at the range while I had some time. Stapled some targets up on the stand drug it out to 50 yards and started shooting the unsorted pellets. Fergot my Chrony though I will add chrony results to the post later. Love the shot count on the 2240 it's over fifty shots at 18-20fpe. The HW has a tiny air reservoir so only manages 20 shots or so at about the same power level.

Someone left a target that did not have enough holes in it so I finished it off for them the .22 pellets are a bit smaller than what they were shooting. Groups fit under a nickel .83 of an inch so guess they are around .75 inches. These were from the 2240 blue gun but both guns were shooting groups this size very consistently.

The HW44 shot the same pellets just as well as the 2240 and ended up with about the same size of groups.

Center target was from the sk19 shooting some of the newer NSA 17.5 dish based HP slugs they look promising. Shot to the right was the first shot after an air refill. Shot below was a random stray pellet when I was sighting in the HW44. There are six shots in less than 3/4 inch.

The 2240 had an Exclusive breech for a short while but now has a much better quality Custom Air breech and a chopped FX STX barrel. I had a long post on the werq done on the gun but the whole post and all of the replies disappeared when I updated one of the pictures. Not sure how or why.

The gun originally had a Crosman 2250 barrel on it that I reversed because the breech end was tighter than the crown end. So, I cut the port off made a new one on the other side, tapered the lead and re-crowned the once breech end. It shot as well or better than it does now for many years but at 630fps any more and accuracy went out the window. The new barrel allows me to shoot much faster and still hold some semblance of accuracy.

The 3k bottle is regulated to 1400psi

Edit;

I think this is the trigger (NOT) but it will be shortly. Has one of the early steel Steve in NC adjustable sears in it along with a new aftermarket trigger I picked up somewhere.

I was thinking about the trigger being a bit stiff when I was out shooting it. So opened it up cuz you asked about it and to my dismay found the trigger blade I made out of aluminum scrap decades back with a lighter spring and guide. My bad! It has the adjustable sear in it now and it is a much improved trigger.

A better buy? I am a bit torn here and not sure I can answer that question as stated.

The $70 2240 was the $1000 HW44s equal accuracy wise at about the $300 mark long before the FX barrel and Custom Air repeater breech made it it's equal in the velocity and and in shot count arena as well. The 2240 began over a decade back when I did not have the money for a HW$$ even if there had been one around. ;^) If you disregard the money aspect the HW44 is the perfect pistol and ready to go out of the box really hard to ask for more. Other than the rather clunky feel when inserting or removing the magazine from the HW44 I only have praise for the thing. Hope this helps.
