OMG did he say sand?

Lol anything with a probe that passes through o-rings or a probe that has o-rings that passes into a breech or barrel sand can easily destroy o-rings and scar aluminum to the point of permanent damage. 

This testing will be very interesting. 

3 different makers

Fx and edgun for sure and the third would just be a random toss up for me.



Looking forward to the 3 contestants to see whose champ.

I like the idea a lot, but you don’t have to overly abuse the guns. Just some of the typical things that might happen while afield. We’re not talking battle rifles here. A fair way to test would be to purchase some cheap, soft sided, minimally padded gun cases. Take at least three guns, already zeroed, shoot them. Then put in back of pick up truck of your choice, loose in cases. Drive down typical rutted dirts road, washboards, etc. Uncase them, see if they hold POI. Drop them from a prescribed realistic height in the soft case (pickup tailgate) onto the dirt. The soft cases will transmit the shot without scarring the guns too much. Definitely looking forward to what you come up with.

Yes traveling with the guns will definitely be part of the test. Not looking to bash or destroy but show some realistic scenarios that's typical to field use. Looking to create a testing scale that would show some type of score for each gun.

Extreme's that won't yield great data.

  1. Driving over them
  2. Covering them with sand/dirt.
  3. Leaving them unprotected from moisture.

    Tests that would be valuable.
    1. High and low temperature for sealing and POI shifts. 
    2. Reasonable bumps/impacts to barrel assembly/barrel tip for POI shifts.
    3. Magazine cycling for 100's/1000's of cycles. (For gun mech and mag.)
    4. Using included adjustments multiple times...reg, hammer spring, valve...etc.

    1. Or as our pirate friend Joe Rhea would say, the titty twister test haha Thanks for the ideas, I agree to keep the test reasonable. Have no interest in running over anything, that's just rediculous and disrespectful to Airguns in general.

Honestly - couldn't you just drive over and Edgun and your test is complete? LOL In some ways it is actually unfair to include Edgun in this test as we have all seen Ed run over the gun multiple times with his truck and then keep shooting. 

Also - I think this test needs to broken down into bullpups and rifles/carbines. I feel the bullpups have the more protected barrels with a generally more robust and supported build. Whereas the rifle/carbine options have a more exposed barrel that would be susceptible to POI shifts from bumps. 

I don't have a lot of experience with many high end guns but I think it would be nice to see a comparison around the popular models. 

Bullpus: Impact, Veteran, Uragan, Cricket (yes, I am specifically excluding the Edgun)

Rifle/Carbine: Bantam Sniper HR, Crown, EVOL (I'd like to see a Raptor in here too as I have one on order)

Instead of sand, place a balloon over the end of the gun, cock and load the gun with the bolt locked down (no water should make its way into the barrel) then submerged in a bath of water for 15mins. Remove the gun, allow to drain for 2 minute then shoot 10 shoot over the chrono.

That should sort the men from the boys. It will find out how good the seals mod/shroud is at keeping the water out of vital parts. After the test, strip, dry, clean, lube and reassemble, timing the process, 


I will happily test one of my rapids if someone fancies testing their gun 👍

Thanks for all the replies and please keep them coming. I have several meetings at Shot Show that may help get the ball rolling on this. I'm reading every comment and taking note of the most logical ideas. So far these are the test that will definitely be included:

Durability such as barrel, cocking, magazine, check for poi changes etc,

Reliability such as leaks, overall build, nuts, bolts etc,

Accuracy such as how well the barrel system, shroud etc, can handle reasonable use. This test should accelerate the use found on a gun over several months, compressing it down into several hours of testing. Things like sand, large drops will not be part of this as it's not typical to field use although some form of moisture may be included in the test. Making a discussion with other Airgunners is the key to making this worth doing. Appreciate the support very much.

Ok guys,

Here is an update that I promised after the Shot Show. I have thankfully been donated several high end guns, many of them are listed over these 3 pages. I plan to be gone for several days later this week to start filming for a few segments of this series of videos. I have been in contact with several manufacturers and so far the outcome looks very promising as far as participation. I will report my list of participating guns very soon, just waiting on a few OK's to do so.
