Airforce Top Hat & bolt slop?

I'm probably using the wrong term but when I close the bolt after cocking the rifle there is 1/8 slop.If i don't pull it back to the tophat velocity is about 1/2 power.
The rifle is a spinloc Talon SS .177.
Do i advance the tank forward to take up the slop, then play with tophat distance?

I haven't played with an AF rifle for 10 years and google hasn't been helpful.

so I have a Condor SS.. with the ring lock top hat.. the tank is supposed to be tightened all the way in then loosen the ring lock and adjust it so you don't have hardly any play.. then tighten up the little jam nut against the back of the top hat.. double check you don't want it to be tight against the top hat but really not more than a business card thickness of play..
that's with the breach closed and the cocking knob to either side..
hope this helps, I can look for my manual and get you some pictures if you want
you are welcome to PM me if you want to talk more about it
