Toying with getting a Vulcan 3

So I'm toying with getting a Vulcan 3 in .22 - I kind of prefer the longer 700mm barrel BUT I'm seeing little, if mixed results, from googling around regarding pellet accuracy with it. I want it strictly for the high shot count and plan on only shooting 18g or maybe 25.39g RD's pellets with it. I'd just assume leave the air tube / plenum in "low power" setup vs flipping it around for the bigger plenum / high power ( but lower shot count I'm assuming ) config.

Are any of you running the 700mm with pellets and having good accuracy out to . . . 70-80 yards? If the 500 choked barrel is the better option then so be it.

Curious and thanks folks.

I'm in the same boat JD. I'm waiting for dealers to get more of the 700mm guns, but in.25 caliber. There's not much info out there except on the .30 and I like what I'm hearing about this platform so far. I plan to shoot slugs and pellets of various wieghts so I'm a little disappointed that you have to take the action out of the stock to adjust the hammer spring and tear the gun appart to fiddle with the regulator, that's just the way it is though. I think I'll wait until a few more 700mm guns of various calibers get reviewed then jump on a .25 if I like what I hear.

Good luck,

Glenn in Texas

Am in the same boat, but may just take the new Wildcat 3 BT VP and replace bottle with a carbon fiber version, as I want 600 mm barrel 700mm is too long especially if you put a moderator on the end...The Vulcan 3 in 700mm is just too long to carry around and hunt....I have 3 guns that fit what I am looking for :

Vulcan 3

Wildcat MK3 BT

Uragan 2 ( awaiting release)

I only have 1 problem with my Vulcan 3 in .177 ( 500 mm ) aside for not have shot it a lot yet.

And that is i wish it was 700 mm and .22, but that is not a option for me, so say my benevolent leaders whom are always right.

The not so easy way to adjust the regulator, and for that matter the hammer too, it is a drawback for a rifle in this price range i feel, but then again i dont plan to fiddle much with it once i have founds its sweet spot with a given pellet.

Next time i shoot it, i plan to clamp it down, without the stock installed, this way i can shoot it and look at the resulting groups at the same time as i tweak a little on the Hammer adjuster.

Thanks for the input so far guys. In a nutshell - I already have a relatively hard hitting .22 slugger in my Taipan long with a modified 600mm barrel. It's dead accurate, reliable and very predictable. Recently, just for the heck of it I decided to "haul out" my old AA S510 XS Ultimate Sporter - which has got to be the longest, clunkiest name for a gun (lol). I parked it into a huge & very heavy 50" hard case that I have and took it pesting with me at one of my farm permissions. I had a good day with it - it was actually enjoyable shooting and the thing is, and always has been, DEAD.ACCURATE with jsb 16 & 18's. I dropped quite a few pigeons and starlings on that particular day.

-- BUT --

. . . the thing is huge ( like long - over 40" ) and heavy, and shot count is - maybe 30 shots per 250 bar fill. {sigh} I used "haul out" above - yeah - you need to 'haul" that one around because of it's sheer size & weight. I walked into one of my permissions barns with it and in some spots in there - not a lot of space for moving around. The AA was just to darned long - and again - a bit on the heavy side.

I really enjoyed shooting those .22 pellets though - quiet and accurate - I dropped 3 or 4 pigeons @70 yards! For real. ;-)

That's what has me now looking for a high shot count and accurate .22 pellet shooter. On calmer days when wind not much of an issue - out to 70-80 yards - 18g jsb / h&n's will fill the bill all day I'm thinking.

( . . . and I just notice my misspell in the subject . . lol - gonna fix that )

I may grab the 500mm as it has the choked barrel and still has a reported 200'ish shot count per fill. According to TalonTunes web site, Tony has two of them in stock.

When the V3 was released I was thinking 700/.22 cal. But instead I purchased a used 500/.22 cal off the AGN Classifieds. And I'll have to say that the V3 500 is a longer gun 'in person' than I could tell from photos. A couple of pics below comparing a V3 500 to an Argus 600 (nearly the same length) and to a much shorter Cricket 2 Tactical 450.

I am now very happy that I got the V3 500 as the 700 would be a longer gun than I had wanted.

As received my used V3 is shooting 18.13's @ 787 fps and AA 16's @ 846 fps (and like a laser with the 16's). I haven't gotten around to tuning it yet and I am sure that it has plenty more power to give.

I've also personally found that in .22 cal, 500mm of barrel length is plenty out to 100 yards at least. But I'm a pellet, and not really a slug shooter.

Why...do you need more power if the gun is a..."laser" now ? More power isn't going to make it..."more" of a laser

Possibly why I haven't gone into tuning it yet.

But in the end I live and shoot in places where it is normally windy, on a daily basis. I definitely have pesting guns tuned to shoot 15.89's because I use Hades of that weight. But for target shooting I normally want to use the heavier 18's to deal a little better with my local winds.

And I did forget to mention a couple more things about the V3 for the OP's knowledge before purchasing.

1) At this lower power tune the V3 gets tons of shots on the reg. We have a regular Thursday morning airgun shoot at my house, shooting from about 10 am for at least a couple of hours until our eyes get too dry (the wind is normally blowing directly into our faces at my house, or sometimes in from maybe the 2:00 direction). It is a target rich environment here so the shooting is pretty continuous. I shot the little V3 all morning without needing to refill, and still had ~120 bars left at the end of the shoot. Obviously dependent on the power of your tune, but right now my V3 is easily getting over 100 shots per fill.

2) I bought the gun used from ctshooter, who had nicknamed it 'Sir Pings A Lot' when he received it brand new. Yes 'our' gun does have a pretty good ping every time that hammer hits and the couple of little (external) things I have tried have not dampened the sound effectively. It is much more noticeable when you dry fire the gun indoors, but it remains noticeable when outside shooting (but not as bad). Other shooters heard the ping on last Thursday's shoot, but it wasn't bad enough where anyone mentioned it until I brought it up.

Do they all ping? Don't know, I'm working off an n=1. But as pointed out in the OP, there are not a lot of real user reviews on these guns yet, so it is at least something to be aware of before purchasing.

@Dairyboy - yes I've asked Tony to set it up / tune it for me in "typical 18g pellet range speed" - ie; 875-900 - wherever it winds up being most consistently accurate. My AA 510 shoots them in the mid 880's I believe.

@TMH .22 pellets and 500mm barrel length - yeah. After I thought about it some - my Taipan long was only a little longer with the OEM barrel just under 550mm and the AA - that one is just under 400mm - and it's a laser. So yeah -- 500 should be plenty good enough for what I plan on using it for.

I've heard about the "ping" with these units ( the Vulcan ) - hopefully it's not to irritating . . . yeah - I already went ahead and bought one. :) Hopefully it'll be here in a week or so.

Vulcan 3 .177 Cal 500 mm shoots like a champ the NSA slugs.... AMAZINGLy well !!!

Well i have run out of NAS slugs, but JSB and Zan it shoot as well as my Maverick that have a 200 mm longer barrel.

The V3 though, like the Maverick i can not get to shoot well with heaviest slugs 16 / 20 grain, it is not bad of course but not as good as they both do with 13 grain.
Got heavy barrel for Maverick but it are still at the dealer for a repair that should take a few weeks bur are now knocking on 4 months.
