Trail/pack small game pistol?

hi,

I'm looking for a non pcp, preferably non pump pistol for a pack trail gun that would be able to take small game like rabbits or smaller critters. 

I looked thru all of pistol topics, and there is some talk of it, but not real specific. $ is a concern, but i do prefer quality if i have to save a bit. Portable and compact.

I like the HW45, but don't know if it would do the task, crosman 1377 is a pump and a lot of support, but like the idea of just one pump.

Any suggestions
 
Here too its hot, about a hour from Vegas, its been 100+ since June, 106 yesterday. 

What fps in .177 am i looking for to be able to dispatch a rabbit. Not many reviews are listing fpe. I would like to keep it around $300 cause i think thats what i can get for my hw95. The P3 looks good, but reviews are saying not much difference than P17 other than build quality. Any other suggestions

CO2 might be a problem due to the extreme heat in vegas. Personally after looking at the pistols listed i think the best option would be the diana because according to the man. it should hit 700 with .177 pellet which is roughly 8 foot pounds. The other pistols hw45 claims 560 which is just above 5 foot pounds which is just barely enough to take a bunny with a head shot. The p3 and p17 def do not have enough power to humanely take a rabbit. With 8 foot pounds you could take a rabbit with a headshot prob up to like 15 yards.

He said non pcp. Chevyguy66, you might want to go on a quest for a Webley Alecto. I have one and it has been a great pistol. No CO2’s and having to worry about the temperature. When you cock it (pump it) 3 times it will rival a 1377 or 1322 with more than 10 pumps. You just have to find one. They pop up from time to time. Mine is as accurate as any pcp pistol and shoots almost as hard,

If you dont mind the wait while you look this webley seems like it would be the best. The adjustable power that the 3 pumps makes it super good to plink on 1 pump and hunt on 3. Ive heard that the single cock pistols can become hard to cock when a lot of pellets are fired, due to the nature of having to cock the heavy spring all in 1 go. This would make the cocking easier, although you would have to do a couple more.

That 700 fps is with a 4gr pellet so 4.3fpe

FPS means little it's the fpe you need to worry about and there are many fpe calculators out on the web. You will need the pellet weight and fps to use them. The Diana is a 4 and definitely under 5fpe gun at best. So it barely squeaks by on the 4.5 fpe needed, to humanely take a rabbit with a perfect head shot, if you use a 7gr pellet and are extremely close to your prey. You are asking allot from a single pump non co2, non pcp pistol. Spring guns are hard to shoot accurately so using the bare minimum fpe and a spring pistol to do an ethical shot will not be not an easy task. I do wish you luck in your search.

Thanks, it is tough to find for sure, i was originally looking for this weapon as a crossbow pistol, but could not find reputable manufacturer or something that didn't shoot plastic bolts. So I thought pellet pistol maybe, just want anything other than a firearm, i have the Ruger break down 10/22, and Weihrauch HW77k, but they are too heavy.

More energy than absolutely needed is probably always good but I have taken many squirrels and rabbits with BB guns. Shot placement is key for such. The Webley Alecto in .177 is a fine pistol with 1, 2, and 3 pump capability and enough energy with 3 pumps to do the job and 2 might well be enough. I liked the first one I bought enough that I have 3 of them stored away.
