Tried to do a sound comparison of 5 different PCP's this morning 8/2/15

Once I get mine that I ordered I can send it to you so we are using the same device under the same conditions (outdoors say, 3 ft from the muzzle 1 foot in front with mic 90 degrees to muzzle). I think the meter has a tripod thread, might be easiest thing.
Take 10 shots with meter on max hold and record the average taking note the highest recording. Then put the next rifle on the rest and make sure no airplanes or rockets take off and take 10 shots with that rifle.
Such would, hopefully, give results people could use to determine if something was backyard friendly or not. A video wouldn't need to be made just pics of the setup. That's my plan anyway.
I know my Huggett will win lol. Really though the video was cool to watch, never seen a side by side like that and although pointed out that the rifle closet was louder the comentary was important. All those rifles were what I call friendly but the AirArms was loudest with a crack.

Billy, I don't have a smart phone. I ain't smart enough to operate one? LOL
I don't even text. Got a dinosaur phone ;-)

Duncan AKA David, I sure do appreciate that offer man!
We'll wait and see how you like yours? If it's good and not too hard for an ol' country boy to operate, I'll buy one just like it. Sounds like you got a good plan for this.
I've got 8 different rifles I can compare.
Hell, your Wolverine wins in the action department, your lovely laminate stock wins in the stock department, and now that damn Huggett is gonna win too!!!!!!LOL I'll not have it!!!!LOL!
Looking forward to seeing you do your thing on the Wanabe Manabe brother!
Too damn hot down here right now for this ol' fat boy to get out there.

Peace and decibel grease

Ok, got the meter and played with it. It was 56 bucks, a type 2 SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter. A Class 1 meter is lab grade and can measure the much more important PPL (Peak Pressure Level). Also a Class 1 is about $2,000. I did some reading and a simple SPL Class2 $56 dollar will "guess" at a short burst like a muzzle blast. I put it in Slow mode that just displays sound at one times a second, for machinery running situations. My lawnmower was 96db. I put it in fast mode and my Wolverine was 92db, 3ft away.

I will take a video soon and place the meter perhaps 10 feet away and beside the muzzle. 3ft close may be freaking out what little it can do.
Rifles sound not only louder but vary in the pitch or crack. The only true way to show this, on a graph is with a storage oscilloscope...also not in my bag of tools. 😁

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. 😀 Why get a FREE app when you can buy a $56 device of questionable quaility that really wont give proper results for the task at hand? I shall try this so called FREE app Sir.

Actually I will put my meter to work...since it is best for durations of sound when my kids get over 90 decibles I will have them stand with apples on their heads...
