Leofoto Ranger LS-365c tripod with LH-40 ball head is a beast. Its super sturdy, comparatively lightweight, but expensive.

Arca swiss is the rage, but these guys do a picatinny combined with arca, best of both worlds and not as pricey as RRS.

Sirui carbon tripods are a very nice compromise between quality and cost. They are rock solid, light weight, work as they should and durable.

Throw an inexpensive gimbal head on there and it's great for quick shooting at moving targets because it can be adjusted horizontally and vertically but then still be locked down.

Otherwise, an ARCA Swiss or Picatinny mount with a ball head like Michael showed pictures of, work great. After tightening the ball head, there is no movement on either axis.

There are lots of great options, people obviously like different things for different reasons. If at all possible, see if you can shoot with different models. It's the best way to see what you really like the best. Good luck with your decision! Stoti

This mount you suggested is pretty sweet! Most people use ARCA Swiss because it's been the standard for photography for years, people can just use what they have. I've never seen a combo head that has ARCA and a Picatinny mount. Great idea, I wish they sold the ball head mount without the ball head, I already have a few of those! Regardless, it's a sweet mounting option. Thanks!

I hear you on the needing just the mount and not the ball head.

I like the above package, because the bowl design eliminates the ball.

I was able to order the above package for $330 not including tax and shipping from Dvor.com

The only caveat, is a 4 to 6 week shipping, but it seems Fieldopticsresearch.com is out of stock also.

I'll be content with the BOG Deathgrip in the mean time..

I recently bought the Predator Tactics tripod. It comes with everything you need to get to shooting with Picatinny or Arca rails already on your weapon. This is my first tripod but after reading the reviews it’s what I settled on. I paid $200 on sale for the system. It includes a very nice sleeve with a strap to carry it to the field. Again this is my first tripod but I’m more than impressed with it so far.

it works well for me and it’s affordable.

Negative, the head is not removable on the the BOG Deathgrip.

A BOG DeathGrip UltraLite option is available from a few online vendors where the clamp head is sold separately. It can be attached to any tripod that accepts the 1/4 -20 or 3/8-16 mounting stud.
