Trying to get into air rifle hunting

I recently moved to Virginia. I want to get my son into squirrel and rabbit hunting but he hasn’t had much contact with actual guns so I looked into air rifle hunting. However when I look up Virginia regulations the only thing I can find is that it has to be over 35 cal for deer hunting. Any additional information regarding small game in Virginia would help.

@Covelius welcome to AGN. The following link contains decent cursory information on airgun hunting laws by state and type of game.

I went over your state’s hunting regs and it looks pretty vague concerning airguns (aside from deer hunting and arrow gun use). I suggest calling a game warden or wildlife manager for clarification on hunting small game with airguns in Virginia. They’re pretty good at answering questions in my home state. I can’t imagine hunting small game with airguns being illegal in VA. Always defer to your state’s department of wildlife and natural resources for the final say so on regs.
