My cousin has a dairy. A cow can be having a calf and there will be 30 or so buzzards jumping on her trying to eat the eyes out of the calf before it hits the ground.

Hello everyone,

I shot two squirrels yesterday while shooting my paper targets. I did not pick them up because I knew my local Turkey Vultures would need a snack to day. It beats the heck out of me how they can find a small dead animal in the middle of a National Forrest.

So, are you saying they dive into the ground, killing them?

When I lived in Virginia, there was a local park with a boat ramp that for some reason attracted buzzards. There were signs warning that if you left your car there, it may be vandalized by them. The sign stated they were particularly fascinated by valve stems, and windshield wiper blades. I never parked there.

Vultures eat the afterbirths from calving. I have many neighbors with cattle ranches. Vultures, magpies, and ravens all hang close during calving season. It’s a good thing they clean up the messes in the pastures, as well as the plentiful roadkills.

Also, sometimes calves are already dead upon “birth.”
