Tuxing gold filter hydro test

After reading about possible downsides and dangers of the gold filter, I decided to hydro my new and unused filter...I removed the innards, greased the orings, and filled it with water,clear to the top..

i ran the pressure up to 4500, measuring the old of the cylinder empty and at full pressure...I “might” have seen an increase of about .001-.0015 at full pressure...

no leaks, no problems.

i dumped the pressure, and water, let it sit for a couple of days to dry out, then put it in service...

Kinda uneventful, which is what I was hoping for

Has anyone else noticed that John has not provided any photographic evidence to back up his gold filter explosion story? Anyone who owns one knows that these things are very substantial and extremly unlikely to fail. 17Hornet's results don't surprise me at all. These are great filters and a bargain for what they do. Another +1 for you and thanks for the test.

I held pressure for just under 10 minutes...when nothin happens, I get bored pretty fast!

It took most of the time to clean up the water mess..

Originally, I had intended to put the water in a plastic zip lock and fit it in there, but in the end, I just cleaned the water up...

I'm sorry if I am missing the point somehow. Don't we run these up to 4500 psi every time we use them? If you want to do a proper test, shouldn't you pressurize to double the working pressure? I don't believe the guy's story either but using water instead of air to test the expansion of the vessel makes no difference. I agree that one to one and a half thou. is minuscule and people shouldn't be tossing their filters in the bin because of one unsubstantiated claim on a forum. As a matter of interest, did you use air or water to pressurise it?

Will be interesting to see a destructive test to see how much pressure the thing can stand and where it fails. I would imagine that will be the fine threads holding the connectors.

another interesting test will be to cycle it through high and low pressure to see when fatigue occurs.

Yep, but I figured 4500 with water would at least be less likely to cause a problem if it fractured than a tank full of high pressure air..

I have a small oil pump that goes to55 or6k, but honestly, I didn’t want to clean up the oil after...

i am out of town on a emergency but when I get back I will take the photos I have no problem showing them I also don't like to be called basically a liar? I have no reason to make up a story when I have one my self and used it till it failed I was just giving you guys a heads up to watch out in case it happens to someone but I see that trust is a big issue hear and the gold tux is off limits to talk about in this group unless you are giving it five stars so when I get back in a couple days I will post then we can talk about it then and maybe just Maybe you will apologize for being judge mental and wrong. John
