Went down to the dairy to see if this cold snap would increase activity. No pigeons in sight, starlings in a tree at the far edge of the field 120 yards away. Sparrows super smart, stay in low bushes in places with bad shot angles. Took a shot at one of the starlings at 120 yards held 18 MOA down and two for windage, missed!, I hit the branch it was on! They were gone not to return. Went into the building where there are a lot of shadows and saw this rat at 40 yards, it was coming closer. Dialed my scope to 5x, already had my IR on, dialed down to power level 3 on Bantam and sent a 18 JSB when it was 30 yards away. Watch it do the death dance through my scope. I saw more rats than I could shot at, so at least that was good. The owner left this piece of equipment in front of my shooting lane. As I was glassing from behind I can clearly see these two rats sauntering across the circled opening (3 feet wide). I couldn’t take a shot, so I set that board across the top of the unit with a makeshift pedestal for me. By that time the rats were gone. I waited a while and was rewarded with a second rat. Which I could not recover. I thought activity would be up but it wasn’t, maybe next time.
