Two new scopes one problem

In the last month I bought two Athlon scopes. First was a Heras 6-24x56 sfp mounted on a ZELOS 22 with no problems. The second arrived yesterday and is an Ares 15-60x56 sfp . I removed the Heras and installed the Ares in the same Burris signature Z rings with 0 degree inserts.Same pellets, same 13 yards, same everything. It shot over a foot low. Cranked turret up to max and was still inches low. I called Athlon tech and he said it was the zero stop which I knew had nothing to do with maxing it out on top.
Any thoughts?
 
The Heras has 70 MOA of total elevation travel whereas the ETR has less/56 MOA of travel. Likely just need to use the proper amount of degree of inserts so you can use most of the elevation travel. While at it make sure the windage travel is centered and orient the scope so you don't need to adjust windage much to be zeroed.

But as a experiment take the zero stop out to see what happens because maybe its binding on something. I had this happen on a Meopta just a week ago.

I used to use some 1" target scopes which had 24 MOA of travel so I had to use Burris adjustable rings quite a bit.

13 yds. 56MM bell. I wonder if the AO is off because sometimes it is. Another thing is to make sure your adjustments are in the middle of the adjustment range; do what you have to do to do that. Also, you may have to do that again at other ranges. Center your adjustment to the range you are shooting. You have adjustable rings to do that. I would adjust the scope to the middle range and use your rings to adjust at that distance with such a large scope. Just because one scope or three scopes or whatever number does not mean the next scope will "think" the same way; good Luck, and please give a follow-up.(y)
 
Thanks guys, I know I have various degrees of inserts but can’t find. I did have a pair of the cheap westhunter adjustable rings and put them on. I’m pretty sure they are

not meant to correct for elevation as having the rear higher than front would torque the scope but I did it anyway . This works for now and I’ll have to test when I get to the range. If there’s nothing wrong with scope I’ll get the proper burris inserts.

Thanks, I hope I didn’t tighten too much . I did measure and center of scope is 3 inches above center of bore. That’s a lot I think. My 22lr silhouette rifle has high rings but 2 1/2 . I’m really not getting a good picture of the whole thing being Im shooting only 13 yards in basement.

what happened to global warming? this is the worst December in 20 years
 
Thanks, I hope I didn’t tighten too much . I did measure and center of scope is 3 inches above center of bore. That’s a lot I think. My 22lr silhouette rifle has high rings but 2 1/2 . I’m really not getting a good picture of the whole thing being Im shooting only 13 yards in basement.

There is nothing wron with adjustable rings if you need to shoot up close. Some scope just don't have enough elevation travel for up close. Make sure you loosen both the front and rear when you adjust the elevation and then you won't torque anything in the scope.

As another member wrote, as well, get those rings away from the bell and the elevation/windage adjustment. Ideal placement would be around the halfway points. It has been proven that having rings to close the erector assembly can cause issues with reticle movement.

Maybe I should have shown a better picture. 1 the front ring is not touching bell and was moved there when adjusting sight picture from shooting position 2 . The scope is not near touching rail or any gun part. 3 them cheap adjustable rings are meant for height of entire scope they do not cant up or down like the Burris signature z’s that are built for I think up to ahh, well I know I have 20 moa spacers on my silhouette gun 4 . never said the reticle is moving.
