Based upon information provided in this thread and after reviewing a few youtube videos (over and over), I ordered a Vortek PG4 HO kit for my TX 200 in .22. The kit arrived yesterday (very quick delivery!)
I just came from my basement range after having installed the HO kit. I am tickled, tickled, tickled!
I forgot about the metal top hat in the bottom of the piston. The new system was about 1/2" too long. I called Tom at Vortek before putting vises and clamps in use (sheesh!). Tom answered my question quicker than I could ask it. I had to tap on the top of the piston and the metal OEM top hat fell right out! End of a very helpful and friendly call.
Put the innards back in place. I used the lubricant Vortek provides with the kit, but as per instructions, not much.
Before I cleaned the OEM innards a couple of weeks ago, as reported above I was getting about 625 FPS with 15.89 grain pellets (those first ones were JSB, the ones I'm shooting now are same weight but Hades). After cleaning and re-lubing the OEM innards my rifle's FPS went up to 630FPS.
Now, with the Vortek HO kit installed I'm getting about 694 (686-714 with duplicates at 694). Even at 10 yards my FPS is still 666 (I know, I need to get one more or one less FPS). I couldn't be more pleased.
Oh yes, the cocking seems a bit easier (but maybe that's excitement?). The pellet definitely smacks my metal trap harder! I hear no twang and feel no vibration, although I'm happy to report I didn't notice much of that right out of the box (except the twang).
Again, I appreciate the guidance and encouragement here. My squirrel rig with its HAWKE 2x7 AO is ready for the woods.
