The top hat is probably stuck up inside the piston (held in place by old grease). You'll probably need to dig it out. Easiest way is to slam the bottom of the piston rod down on a piece of wood...The top hat...hopefully slides out.No aa guy but I think you may need to get this and go .. I don't recall as tx that did not hav a tophat and the mk1 was steel screw in coil .
Still could be replaced with nylon / synthetic aftermarket tune kit one as well
I'm sure a more educated air arms tx 200 huh will chime in with more correct info ..
There's a .177 and a .22 kits available
Complete service kit for TX200 Mk1, TX200 Mk2, TX200 HC Mk1, TX200 HC Mk2 Std Power.
(177).
Here's the weird thing.... it's not there. i know it's crazy, but Tom at Vortek told me to me grab a few measurements, and do a few procedures like the one you described.... no top hat. The inside depth of the piston is correct as well. Tom just said, "wow, thats an old gun." It has never been taken down so it came from AA like this. The spring wire is .125" and it has 28 coils. The 3 washers also puzzled Tom. Maybe I am not looking at this thing correctly. I think I am putting it together correctly?!?The top hat is probably stuck up inside the piston (held in place by old grease). You'll probably need to dig it out. Easiest way is to slam the bottom of the piston rod down on a piece of wood...The top hat...hopefully slide out.
If not, shine a light into the piston to see if there is a top hat there (maybe do that first). Many ways to remover that stuck top hat (google).

Ya could be . I just figured I seen that mk1 screwed in to the spring coils . But ya I could see that stuck as well. I don’t know if your MK1 is the same size piston as the current TX which I have. Can’t be much different. I bought about 50 Vortek piston seals last year. Most were 26mm then 25mm and last 30mm. Crow
p.a.? Forgive me, but it's gonna take me a while to catch up with the lingo hahah. thanks for all your help. NVM I figured it out lol Pyramid Air.Ya could be . I just figured I seen that mk1 screwed in to the spring coils . But ya I could see that stuck as well. Happens time to time ..
Well old gun you got 2ed hand. Anything's posable of previous owner just winged a tune or just jack legged a spring in and just chunked the rest of the parts
Then you still got the kit

THANK YOU! I found this chart a few days ago, but I lost it. My new PG4 kit is on the way. When I get it, I'm gonna first just replace the piston seal and shoot a few groups and try to chronograph with phone??? Then replace everything with Vortek Pro Sport Kit and test it. This might get intresting lol. Also is the phone chrono worth a download or is it gahbage? Any suggested apps, I dont mind paying if it's good or at least decent.I can't ... Then maybe the reason for the washers to make up that gap of a missing tophat ?

All id know is find this diagram around and follow the part trail
As a former owner of two lefty Mk1, they did not come with what you have pictured. That looks more like the piston weight/front guide that was used in a FAC TX -The top hat is probably stuck up inside the piston (held in place by old grease). You'll probably need to dig it out. Easiest way is to slam the bottom of the piston rod down on a piece of wood...The top hat...hopefully slides out.

Thank you very much for this reply! I am so jealous of the lefties. I have always had a stupid cheek piece digging in my face. I'm not sure I can shoot with a left handed stock lol.As a former owner of two lefty Mk1, they did not come with what you have pictured. And I know a few TX users that wouldn't use a Vortek kit, only ARH parts, but they love Tom's molly impregnated seal.
You are a genius, sir! Thank you.Ya, the air arms stuff can be found at the UK plac s like tw chambers or that one above for reference ..
Air rifle headquarters use to have good air arms stuff. .. has some but not like before / years ago .

Now looking at tx200 stuff what left at ARH i seen this was interesting seeing you have 3 washers
"One thick rear spacer washer replaces the OEM 3 metal washers ."

Well ??? Lol
I'm curious if you bought your Mrk1 used or new. SteveAs a former owner of two lefty Mk1, they did not come with what you have pictured. That looks more like the piston weight/front guide that was used in a FAC TX -

Lol it has been a pain for 35 years.zito, you are a better man than me using the R10. They are a great pellet (if you can afford them) but I find wad cutters a real strain to get into a TX breech.

Because according to this Air Arms Tx200 Mrk 1 owner's posting, his Mrk 1 does have a top hat.
Not sure if he bought it new...probably not if someone put 3 washers in there.
TX200 Mk1 - Help needed! | Piston & Spring
Hi, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice please. I can see there's a lot of wisdom here. I have a Mk1 TX200 (1992), which I've recently stripped down for the first time in 28yrs, mainly because I'd put it away for a goodly time and was sensing some roughness during the final part of...shooting-the-breeze.com
Guess the only way to find out for sure is to ask someone at Air Arms or an owner who bought a Mrk 1 new.
I was told the top hat is to help center the spring at the front and to provide weight to the piston (Ultimately, I defer to your experience and wisdom Steve. I'm newish here andI have been wrong before).
I'm excited to get and try the jsb diablo 8.44 and 10.3. The R10's that it shoots well are 8.1 grzito, you are a better man than me using the R10. They are a great pellet (if you can afford them) but I find wad cutters a real strain to get into a TX breech.
